Cole Porter's "Friendship" (embarassingly not sure what show it's from)

Perhaps not parting, but signifying of everlasting friendships.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

Oohh, and "My Friend" from The Life (Cy Coleman), that is exactly what you need, a fine tune and very sentimental.

Bosom Buddies is hilarious, but probably NOT the type of thing you're looking for.

"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife

"Together, Wherever We Go" from "Gypsy" also works (see Marcia and Mrs. Brady on "The Brady Bunch")

not so much a parting song, but my favorite is "Our Time" from Merrily We Roll Along.

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

"What Would I Do Without You As A Friend" from the God-awful rewrite of MARTIN GUERRE. Typically, the melody is sweet but the lyrics are abysmal.

quite possibly my fave parting friends song ever - "And If We Never Meet Again" from Rags (you'll find it on the Emily/Alice 'Duets' cd as the last track - beautiful)

also
"My Friend" from The Life
"Old Friend" from I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road (not so much goodbye but still beautiful)
"Borrowed Time" by David Friedman is gorgeous
"Every Goodbye Is Hello" from John and Jen
"Some Other Time" from On The Town (I personally hate that song though, lol)
"Fran and Janie" from Is There Life After High School?

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?
