So yesterday I attended the first show of the season at the great paramount theater in aurora IL. I have been a subscriber there for the past 3 years and every show, even the terrible ones are insanely professional and extremely well produced.
So, when I walked into this production I was excpecting something fun and adorable. Like I’m sure most my first exposure to the show was on MTV. I found it cute and fun and not much else. But, yesterday I walked out feeling almost emotionally gut punched. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with what is going on in DC right now or the way the actors delivered there performances. The line in the title song “girls it’s a fact, when your attacked you’ve got to respond.’ Almost had me tearing up. During that line the music lowered and it almost became a protest chant.
The production as a whole has been overhauled and updated with an amazing use of Elle’s cellphone that provided moments of hilarity and some overwhelming emotion. Like how she finds out about the internship. The lead performance of Casey Shear as Elle was fantastic. Also mad props to casting girls of all body shapes of her sorority sisters.
‘So if your in town this month please get on the train and head to aurora for this production. It makes a very strong case for an updated revival to back to the boards.
I’ve been leaning on seeing this, but I think this post just sold me.
Do you know if there are any discounts or if it’s on Goldstar?
