I love that a classic work like Pippin now needs to be prefaced as "from the creator of Wicked..." Oh lord.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:17pmI can't blame them for wanting to cash in on the Wicked craze. If I were producing Pippin, you can for sure bet that I'd have that same tag line on all of my posters. Whatever puts butts in the seats...

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:23pmYeah but I hate putting butts in seats that won't likely enjoy a show that is very different from Wicked.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:37pmHow do you know they won't enjoy it? Just because Wicked exposed them to the theater doesn't mean they won't enjoy other shows. The very fact that they're even seeing another show is a victory, in my opinion. I really don't see anything wrong with this.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:45pmYou know, Bobby, they might. Pippin is a bit of a dark fairy tale. It may appeal to some of the Wicked fans, and open their eyes to other shows. All of us had our eyes opened to theatre by exposure to some show or other.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:50pmUmmm...Is it me or did Stephen Schwartz not really "create" Wicked. He composed the score. I hate when musicals are said to be written by only the composer and people don't mention the other collaborater's, like saying "Sondheim's 'Sunday in the Park with George' and not recognizing the genius contribution of James Lapine.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 2:51pmwell, there are have been a couple of decades (maybe even three??! can that be right?? am i that old?!!) since Pippin was a hit...which means that there are a couple of generations who don't know what Pippin is. AGAIN..if it gets people to the theater, especially kids...i am all for whatever publicity is necessary.
