Good cast? I have no idea who these people are. Do you think the show will be a hit in London like here? When a Broadway production goes to London, do they have completely different sets, lights, costumes and everything like that??

Amanda Holden (Millie) is a TV actress who trained in musical theatre. A lot of people are very negative towards her appearing as Millie because they feel she's merely a star name that will attract people and isn't there because she's talented. For example, she hasn't built up her stamina in the ensemble.
GTG.. I'll post more tomorrow.

Then, there is the Shaftesbury Theatre...otherwise known as the kiss of death...

She first came to MY attention in a PBS adaptation of "A Little Princess" (based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett) in which she played Miss Minchen, the Headmistress. More recently, she played Aunt Eller in the RNT production of Oklahoma, starring alongside Hugh Jackman, who played Curly.

No, apparently it's a direct transfer, even to the point of costumes being made in New York and being flown over.
It's at the Shaftesbury Theatre, a theatre where no show does well. Sadly TMM will probably do very badly. I am dying to be wrong because London needs a hit, especially such a good one.. the thing is we're just not used to paying such big bucks for our tickets (top: $75).. it may be a bargain to you guys but the quality of Broadway simply isn't reflected in our shows.
Maureen Lipman is a big name here, her and Amanda Holden will rake in a British audience. Everyone thinks Amanda is drop-dead gorgeous and all the OAPs will simply love Maureen Lipman.
So, only time will tell. It's not selling well at the moment as far as online sales, and everyone speculates about box office takings but sadly we don't have a % equivilant like you guys have on playbill.com so we never know how anything's doing!
Jake.

I would really love to see Millie do great in London, but I don't see it being as well-received there in London as it was here in NY. It's a New York based show, and it has a lot to do with how New York changes people and so on and so forth. I noticed that even when it went out of town to Hartford, some of the jokes were not as well received (thought the 2nd act was FULL of laughs). I have a feelin that many of the people that will see the show in London have never been to New York, and it may have a bit of an effect on the way some of the show is received.
I'm also really hoping that Amanda Holden has great comedic skills. The actress playing Millie has the power to change the tone of the show.
I would love for this to be a big hit in London, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
