From Michael Musto's column - anyone hear anything about this?

>The kids on the Broadway boards are buzzing that the stage musical version of the Full Monty might be on the verge of being made into a film musical, much the way The Producers and Hairspray have ping-ponged from movie to stage show to movie again. The proposed star of the strip-and-sing film epic? Hugh Jackman! Book my ticket now!<<
Why Hugh? He already bared all in a stinker called "Red Desert" I think it was.

The only movie musicals you will see Hugh in will be by Disney, due to that deal he signed with them... I don't see Full Monty as the type of project Disney will do...
Another Broadway musical they can ruin?

Good!
I don't think they will ruin this one as bad...And I think the current script will translate beautifully!
One of my favorite shows.
Well, Patrick could still do it...
I'll die if Andre is in it. He's a great actor - and looks good on screen!

Red Desert????
Hugh's Disney deal is non-exclusive so I think that means he can do other stuff.
they won't even let colin farrell show his bits on screen why would they let five chorus boys do it?

Here's the message that was posted on the "All That Chat" message board at http://www.allthatchat.com/allthatchat/d.php?id=201565 - there are follow-up messages to it. I guess it could be possible that it was all said as a joke also since he "heard it at a party."
>Has anyone heard anything solid about a filmed version of the musical Monty?
An acquaintance from L.A. sent me an e mail and mentioned that Geffen pictures was "ready to act on it as soon as Jackman is free".
I had never even heard that the film rights were sold and that Hugh Jackman was being considered for the lead or anything...
I wrote back asking for details and sources and he "heard it at a party".
Anyone have verifiable facts?<<<

It's still a "huh?" since he never made a movie with a name remotely similar to that.
nevermind, I was misinformed I think. Sorry.
I'm pretty sure the Hugh Jackman "Red Sand" thing was an internet hoax...

If THE FULL MONTY is going to be fi,med, it NEEDS Patrick Wilson to re-create his role as Jerry. That might actually lure me into a movie theater again!

See, these are the reasons some actor's DON'T do nudity.
Besides, it's time for the world to be amazed my de Shields' "BIG BLACK MAN"
patrick has never shied away form nudity in the past... what are you trying to say? I'm confused...

Yeah, he said on Leno...or was it Conan...that POTO is like the first time he didn't have to take off his clothes.
Hugh Jackman's movie deal is for NEW musicals only - he has said he only wants to create new characters - so I doubt he is doing "Full Monty". Come on, Patrick Wilson would be AWESOME in the movie. But what is with movies being made into Broadway shows being made back into movies....ugh
Wow, I really hope they do this. I would definitely want to see Patrick Wilson in it.

And honestly, I just don't think Hugh would be all that great in this show anyways. I think Jerry needs to be like this rustic, down to earth, man's man sorta type, and I don't think Hugh (or his singing voice) would be right for it.
It is a tad sad that usually the Broadway Casts are the last ones asked when movie time happens.

does any one else think it's almost time to throw in the towel a bit with the whole 'we need Broadway actors to play their respective roles in film versions of their musicals'?
Chicago - 7 big/huge stars - huge success
Phantom - no one very well known - moderate flop
Rent - couple of moderate stars - not lookin so hot right now
And the Producers seems like it'll do well, just not Chicago well...uma/nathan/matthew are all pretty big stars, but arguably not as big as renee/catherine/richard.
The current track records kindof shows that the success of a movie musical is pretty elementary - star power. I hate saying this, and I wish it wasn't true, but it just seems like they only way to really have a hit with a movie musical is to have name hollywood stars...it's very sad, actually. Feel free to disagree, I'm pretty much just speculating/speaking out my ass.

this may be true, but I would much rather see someone in a role that is not well known, but able to pull of the spark of the character. When an actor is playing the role night after night for months, they connect in a way that an actor playing the role for only a month or so can. By putting in an actor from the original you get a great story and great acting because this person held the role dear and they do not want anything bad to happen to the role. A well known actor can bring in the bucks, but is that what we really want our shows to do?
I think it is more important to turn a show into a movie that will fully display it's greatness regardless of the money earned
