This will be the first time since 1968 that Shakespeare's tale of romantic woe plays the Delacorte. Starting June 5 [though July 8], expect previously announced Lauren Ambrose (Juliet), Oscar Isaac (Romeo) and Camryn Manheim (Nurse) to be joined by Opal Alladin (Lady Capulet), George Bartenieff (Lord Montague/Apothecary/Cousin Capulet), Ari Brand (Ensemble), Anthony Carrigan (Ensemble), Dan Colman (Paris), Michael Cristofer (Lord Capulet), Tiffany Danielle (Ensemble), Seth Duerr (Ensemble), Quincy Dunn-Baker (Ensemble), Saidah Arrika Ekulona (Lady Montague), Christian Felix (Ensemble), Brian Tyree Henry (Tybalt), Susan Hyon (Ensemble), Orville Mendoza (Ensemble), Owiso Odera (Benvolio), Jeff Omura (Ensemble), Lucas Papaelias (Ensemble), Austin Pendleton (Friar Laurence), Mary Rasmussen (Ensemble), Michael Rossmy (Ensemble), Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Ensemble), Alexander Sovronsky (Ensemble), Timothy D. Stickney (Prince Escalus), and Christopher Evan Welch (Mercutio).

I was hoping for a really great production of R&J. Unfortunately, Oscar Isaac and Lauren Ambrose are too old to be playing R&J.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I've heard through the grapevine that Ambrose gave one helluvan audition. She's always reliable for a great performance, as are Isaac, Pendelton, Welch, etc.

gothampc, I agree with you. Actors nearing 30 are way too old to be playing R&J. I don't care how great an audition they had.

While people can act jaded about the casting, how many fluent Shakespearean actors in NYC could pull of those huge parts under these conditions?

I cannot wait for this production. The language of Romeo and Juliet is beautiful and I hope their performances live up to the text.

Lauren Ambrose may not look like she is 15 or 16 but she certainly doesn't look her age either. I've also read that her audition was fantastic so I definitely think she'll be a winning Juliet. I'm quite excited about seeing her perform on this play.

Sounds great especially Manheim which is, in my mind, PERFECT casting.

Ambrose also has way too much estrogen to play Juliet - if you want to look at the casting that way...
