Posted: 1/4/07 at 3:41pmMost of the leads look to be the same as in Los Angeles (I think)... although I know I didn't see Ernie Sabella as Debra Monk's husband.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 4:01pmYes, I believe Ernie Sabella is the only major replacement from the L.A cast. I loved this show when I saw it during previews in L.A. (as a work-in-progress of course), I hope they have worked on it to guarantee a successful run on Broadway. I particularly hope that Jason Danieley gets to shine a bit more than he did at the Ahmason where his role seemed to be a bit too underwritten--though he still did a great job. I still think Karen Ziemba's role feels more relevant to the main plot than Debra Monk's, but I suppose Ziemba will go into the featured category and Monk will be leading.

Who did Sabella replace?
Also, I think he will have been in every other show in the Hirschfeld since the name change. He was in Man of La Mancha and Sweet Charity, and now Curtains.
re: Full cast set for CURTAINS#5
Posted: 1/4/07 at 4:05pmMonk is above the title and Ziemba is not. Of all the creative ways producers can work it, they can't submit Ziemba for Lead and Monk for Featured with that billing.

Time to test out my old Ernie Sabella curse.
He was out when I saw "...Forum," and he left "Sweet Charity" right before I saw it. I'm seeing a very early preview of "Curtains," so I'll see how powerful it really is.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 5:13pmI'm very excited about this show! This might be a little off topic but in a november issue of the village voice he wrote a predicition for tony nominationed actresses which I see as very noteworthy. He basically outlined Murphy, Monk, Chenoweth, McDonald and Ebersole as the five nominees. I can't wait to see if he turns out to be right!

David Hyde Pierce AND Ernie Sabella.
oooohhhhhhh man.
SO excited for this.
Haha, it's kind of funny, we just got through with a local production comedy murder mystery.

This is true, Walden played Sidney in Los Angeles and got close to no entrance applause both times I saw the show.
As for Monk, her role may be nominated for Best Actress, but I can't imagine her winning in the least. Carmen is a relatively small role compared to the size, stature, and difficulty (probably less so) of Niki and, especially, Georgia. It's not a Best Actress role.
ETA: With the inclusion of Walden, the following cast members were either added or left:
-Kevin Bernard (added)
-Paula Leggett Chase (added)
-David Loud (added)
-Jessica Lea Patty (left)
-Allison Spratt (added)
-Jerome Vivona (added)
Looks like they're trying to expand a little on the ensemble, which is definitely a good idea, as it'd give the show a fuller feel to it.

re: Full cast set for CURTAINS#13
Posted: 1/4/07 at 6:35pmMonk might be submitted for Featured, I'm not saying she can't - but that Ziemba can't then be submitted for Leading. They can both be submitted for Featured if the producers feel Monk has no shot at Leading due to the role.

I believe David Hyde Pierce will be Raul Esparza's strongest competition for this year's Tony Awards, this role is tailored to his abilities and it is fascinating (not to mention absolutely hilarous) to see him from the second he makes his entrance through his showstopping "A Tough Act To Follow" (along with Jill Paice of course) to his final scene.
I know Monk is headlining the show and therefore will be considered for the leading actress category for award purposes (and she sure deserves a nomination for this role, she is fantastic) but I can't help but think that the character itself is not as relevant to the main plot as Ziemba's. Either way, both are exquisite in the show and I look forward to seeing them again.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 6:50pmI am a huge fan of both Ziemba and Monk and would personally be quite torn if they were in the same category! Of course, I haven't yet seen the show - that might change my feelings as to which role is more "deserving" of Tony.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 6:51pmI'm not even interested in this show and I posted a topic on it. I knew others were interested though.

As good as it might be, I do not see anything derailing a Spring Awakening sweep
SA was ******* brilliant
Having said that will see it

I forgot about the sentamentality factor
A definite possibility as K & E was one of the greatest writing teams ever for Broadway. It should be interesting

Yep. Darcie was in the LA cast I believe.
Gr8 to see her back on Broadway. I think she would be a fabulous Janet in Drowsy.
