Of course I realize that Parkinson and co. were included in the acting categories. I hated how the Boheme situation required the Tony committee to give them an actual Tony--the only way that they could properly honor them. It just didn't seem right. And yes, they were amazing singers, but they weren't all great actors. Even the rave reviews mentioned that. I personally think that "Movin' Out" should have been up in the Best Theatrical Event category, which would disqualified them from acting awards. I think if "Movin' Out" had won Best Theatrical Event, Best Choregraphy, Best Orchestrations and a special award for the company, all would be right in the world.

I seem to remember Brantley's review saying not to ask him to choose amongst the pairings, as all were equally effective. I can't recall a review that commented on a lack of acting prowess.
I understand your feelings about Movin' Out. They are the hardest working performers on Bway. But I think placing them in the event category would have delegitimized the show and harmed it. I believe it to be a musical, not a 'conventional' one but a story told thru music none the less.
As for Boheme members getting an actual Tony. Those are semantics and only symbolic. More important was the recognition of what the committee considered to be extraordinary achievement while acknowledging the special circumstances inherent to the production.

This whole LaBoheme thing and giving them a special award reeks of Contact. Show like this will be what we discuss and hate or love for years to come.
