I was going to post the same question here, commenting to follow. These are all great suggestions everyone! I'm personally more interested in local faves and less touristy things.

As a local, my pre-show tradition is to indulge in a couple dollar slices from 2 Bros. Pizza. I did it before my first Broadway show - when I was alone & really didn't have the cash to eat somewhere nice - and it's stuck. :) Not the most amazing pizza in the world, but it's hot & fresh, and always manages to hit the spot. (It's also one of those things I CANNOT turn into a habit, so though it's cheap & casual, it feels like a special treat.)

We are seeing Frozen later this month and have reservations for Sardi's that night. It might be toursity but I am a tourist of sorts since I live in Texas and get to New York about once a year.We have been going there once each trip since 2003 and we really like it for what it is. I agree having after show drinks there is a lot of fun upstairs. But we also like Joe Allen and try to go there once while we are in town. Also we tried Pergola des Artiste on 46th last trip and liked it and are going again this trip.

If you're in the theater district, the best way to get away from the touristy places is to walk over the restaurant Mecca that is 9th Avenue. Zillions (or close) of small, non-chain restaurants. Among the few I've sampled, my fave is Cara Mia near 46th.

As for H&B Burger, where I've enjoyed their veggie burger, it certainly draw tourists, but it's also where I ate when I worked nearby. Well, on those days that I decided to spend more than I would on a slice of pizza or falafel at my favorite fast-food spot Maoz. You order the falafel and then fix it up at their toppings bar however you like. There's at least a couple in the theater district.

We like Osteria al Doge, which is on 44th St,  so not too far from your theater. Good food and a nice atmosphere!

Unfortunately, the locals really aren't going to post recommendations on here for their faves ( I don't want my regular places to get packed so I'm unable to eat there)  However, I will say that most out of towners go to Smackeries (45/9) for cookies if you're into that kind of thing, it's always packed especially after the shows get out.  I don't understand the draw but there's always a line.  I will also say that the Glass House Tavern gets some of the casts after curtain and you could spot someone here....
