Harvey Fierstein...Michael McKean...Bruce Vilanch...who's next on Broadway?
John Goodman...thought I heard that somewhere before.

That would be delightful, I think. He's great.
I'm not sure if it's something that's possible, for many reasons, but still...

bruce vilanch is AWFUL! i saw him in chicago. HORRIBLE!
about a week after i saw him in hairspray i was talking to a man and his wife sitting next to me at light in the piazza. we were talking about theatre and the hairspray tour came up. they happened to be friends of bruces and agreed that he was dreadful. they told me he needs to stick to writing and stop accepting every offer that is thrown his way even when he knows he cant pull it off.

All caps. Wow.
Friends of Bruce. How exciting.
Actually he was very good in the role. But after all it is an opinion. I, and the majority of us here, will probably say we think you are wrong.
Also, the bit about the "friends" is ridiculous. It actually takes away credibility from your opinion.

Posted: 7/6/04 at 3:55pmI thought Bruce was very good. He wasn't harvey, but the show was terrific with him. I saw it with a member of the broadway company and he thought Bruce did a great job, and he saw Harvey's performance every night.

i just didnt like the way he played the part. he didnt do anything with the character. i felt like i was watching bruce dance around in a dress and act stupid.
you can believe me or not. im just telling you what happened. i was talking to the couple next to me at intermission about different shows, i said i just saw the hairspray tour and they asked me what i thought. in what i said about the show i mentioned i hated bruce and the man said he has been friends with him for many years, went to see him in the show and also didnt like him in it. maybe he was lying. thats what he told me. sorry if telling a story takes credibility away from my opinion.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 2:20amwell since they've gone with John Pinette for the tour, we know they don't mind dipping into standup comedy. I'd love to see Artie Lange in the role. Lewis Black would also be pretty great but he'd never do it. John Goodman is a great idea. Also could see John Lovitz or Jason Alexander. Oooh how about J.K. Simmons?

Posted: 7/8/04 at 2:50amhey why the heck not, Harvey got his first TONY for writing a book. then when Marc finishes, William Finn would be perfect if we wanna keep with creative types.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 9:24amBroadway Guy, that would be a great fundraiser for any charity, to have a night where Marc played Edna, either on Broadway or the Tour..wow! they could raise so much money...good idea! By the way, I DISAGREE with the negative opinions about Bruce, his warmth and humor are so real and some of those looks of his under those fun glasses are priceless, not to mention his ad libs and the fun he and Todd Susman seem to have on stage, his transformtion at the end of the show surpasses Pennys as far as I am concerned, and as much as I love Harvey, I would rather hear Bruce sing any day!ok, my 2 cents...woth about that to! But I do love the Tour people, they seem to have such chemistry, wonder how it will go when Martt and Marissa join the Tour on stage this Friday in San Diego? Chemistry, craziness, or egos getting in the way, or cast feeling sorry for those not getting to perform?? any ideas on that one?
