G'Bye, Gem of the Ocean
G'Bye, Gem of the Ocean#0
Posted: 2/6/05 at 1:55pmIn just a few hours, Broadway will see the end of "Gem Of The Ocean". I think the premature closing of this wonderful play is so incredibly disappointing. If anyone goes to the closing show today -- let us know how it was. At least another great play is coming in to replace it, but I wish they could run at the same time. This is really one of the best things, if not THE best thing, the season has seen so far on Broadway.

Posted: 2/6/05 at 2:00pmi just got finished talking to my mother about this wonderful play and it brought back my dissapointment that it is closing before it should. Goodbye Gem, you will certainly be missed.

Yes, what a fantastic play.
It is a shame that stuff like this can't run longer on broadway now.

Posted: 2/6/05 at 4:12pmI have a feeling the grosses will be great for the closing week of Gem. It hasn't been on TKTS since Wednesday.

The shame of it is, its weekly gross only fell below (the announced) break even ONCE, two weeks ago when the big snow storm killed business for it and just about every other show. A closing notice was was posted the next day.
It's very sad to close this show so quickly when it is doing decent business and just beginning to find its audience (the pressure to get "Doubt" into the Kerr by the Tony deadline certainly hastened Gem's demise). A very sad day, indeed.

Posted: 2/6/05 at 10:22pmIt was a joyous final performance with a very enthusiastic crowd. I am sad to be saying goodbye to such a lovely and talented cast and crew.

It is sad because it was a brilliant play. But people don't want to see depressing shows. It really blows my mind that BKLYN is still running yet A GEM is closed.
Sad. Very sad.

Rashad will get a nomination. She is brilliant. But that is old news.

Just like everyone else who's posted - I'm also sad to see this show leave, especially since I haven't had a chance to see it.
What's replacing it?

Posted: 2/7/05 at 8:31amI had no idea it closed yesterday! My college was running a trip to see it for yesterday and I got tickets then it was cancelled because not enough people bought them. I was planning on going in on a later date to see it. This is such depressing news.
