This can't be true because the producers paid all of that money to get put on the show so the nation could see it and maybe buy tickets. I would take this with a grain of salt

During the commercials they give out some awards. During other commercial breaks, they play videos for the audience. It is possible that GHOST and others may perform in the commercial breaks, but that would mean that it would still be shown during the telecast (just not live). Only reason I see for this happening is logistics, if it's indeed true.

they could be playing into a commercial break...play a verse of a song and a chorus pause for a moment....get applause....commercial break, but they continue in a extended performance...
