GLEE at the Tonys (spoiler)

Is it true Lea Michele is singing "Don't Rain on My Parade" like people on Twitter and Facebook that have been to rehearsals are saying?? I think the only way this can legitimately fit into the show is if she's going to do FUNNY GIRL. Otherwise it just makes no sense.

WHAT possibly makes you think that the only reason she can sing that song on the Tonys is that she is going into FUNNY GIRL? That makes NO sense.

In the past, guest performers at the Tonys have included Mary J. Blige and Tony Bennett. Didn't mean they were going into shows.

She's singing a SHOWTUNE. Seems appropriate for the Tony Awards, no?
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

FUNNY GIRL is 2+ years away. Let's all just calm down about it.

To build off of CapnHook, she also sang "Don't Rain on My Parade" in Glee, I think. Last fall. So it would make perfect sense for it to be a "Glee" performance.

It's an open secret that she's been campaigning for the part though. I think this will further cement its chances if it can work around her shooting schedule (tricky).

Cement her chances?

THIS.
IS.
TWO.
YEARS.
AWAY.

There's a little girl starring in her High School production of BIRDIE right now who could be a mega star in two years and will play the part. Let's just calm down and wait at LEAST a year and a half.

GLEE at the Tonys (spoiler)

Nothing against GLEE or Lea, but its not like she is the only one to do a great interpretation(or imitation as,in this case) of Barbra's signature belter. I certainly cannot see her as the next Ms.Striesand--the next Idina Menzel maybe, but she is not in the same league as Barbra was at the start of her career. As far as I am concerned she is just another very talented Broadway singer who made good on television who is coming back to sing one of her favorite Broadway standards on the Tonys.
And as far as the revival goes, seems like everyone went crazy when they announced that a FUNNY GIRL was actually going to happen, but I feel the director has other things in mind besides box office draw when trying to find the next Fanny. I trust he will find the perfect Fanny, just as he found the perfect Emile and Bloody Mary.

Why the hell is Glee performing? I'm sorry but I think I just lost the little bit of respect I had left for the TONY Awards.

And they are part of the theater community so your respect should be restored. I officially lost my respect when the 4th non equity regional touring cast of Jersey Boys was allowed to perform last year taking time away from the play categories.

Im more horrified about the opening number... from what I hear it should be called "Songs That Should Never Be On Broadway"

They're going to perform the entire score from THE ADDAMS FAMILY?

If GLEE were to perform on the Tonys, it would most definitely be fitting. It's a show that promotes the performing arts. AND they sing showtunes! (and the TV series has a host of theatre actors)

HOWEVER as it has already been pointed out, GLEE is not performing. Two cast members from the show, both Broadway veterans, are performing. And they are names that because of their association with GLEE will get more people to tune in. And that's a GREAT thing.

People will keep saying Glea Michelpheba is doing Funny Girl until a press release says otherwise.

Same as when people insisted Chenoglee was playing Elle Woods.

GLEA MICHELPHEBA IS NOT DOING THE BROADWAY REVIVAL OF FUNNY GIRL.

"I am STILL trying to figure out why Bret Michaels performed last year."

One of his songs was in Rock of Ages.

Matthew Morrison does "All I Need is the Girl," and in my opinion, it's the best performance of the entire night.

Lea does "Don't Rain..." and it's probably the 2nd best or close.

If I weren't a huge theater fan and sitting in the theater (for the dress), I'd consider turning off the TV during the opening number. After the awesomeness that was last year's number, this year just shows what a weak year on Broadway it was. Sean Hayes does a cute job integrating himself into a few of the numbers (and he does an able job all night), but that can't nearly save it.

I was at the rehearsal and Morrison's "All I Need is the Girl" is fantastic!

I agree with TonyVincent, the dress rehearsal really showed what a weak year it was for Broadway. But, I'm excited nonetheless.

really? it is because of the tie in to. Don't they use one of his songs? I would have loved to have seen Journey too. I didn't think it was out of place at all. He was though, poor guy.

as for those who say "GLEE isn't perfroming Lea and Matthew are" well, true, however, they are a part of GLEE and without that show they wouldn't be. Also, the people who said no way no how would anyone from GLEE be performing due to FOX allowing it would still hold for Lea and Matthew. Mind you they have been on Broadway before.

All this Lea Michele (Safari) complaining is just making the members of the Lea Michele Love Museum at Tenafly High School at Tenafly NJ more and more angry!!!

She's an OK actor, but just try to have her sing a ballad. She couldn't do it in HS or in "Fiddler"!
