Hey all.
I really don't know how to say this ! I went to the show having the highest of expectations and really looking forward to LOVE it. The cast recording is one of the most often played at my home and all the promotional videos I'd seen of the OBC made me really eager for it. I am devastated to say...I sort of hated it
There were times I was really bored, Michael Longoria doesn't come even close to what I've seen of JLY and he was really straining to hit the high notes, I had a feeling that Christian Hoff wasn't really into it, he was probably having an off night, I got the understudy for J. Robert Spencer (sorry, don't have my playbill in front of me) and he was just ok. On the plus side, the production works like clockwork, the music is of course wonderful and Sebastian Arcelus was GREAT ! I know how popular the show is on the board, so please don't attack me guys. I honestly wanted to adore it but...6,5 out of 10

6 out of 10 isn't really "hating it"....sorry it didn't live up to your hopes though!
I agree with you Panos.... I thought the show was kinda "overrrated"
Nice stage blocking..but not really into that sort of wise-guy dialogues...
I do like the chreoragphy, projections and actors. I saw it with the original Broadway Cast ...I actually LIKE it...but not RAVING for it..
Nice review, btw!

HB, you are right, but it was still not a waste for me. There were parts I really enjoyed and the score is magnificent. I gave 4 to Cry-Baby which was a painful experience and I enjoyed JB much more than that train wreck

Thanks for your review!
Thanks for the review! How was the woman who played Mary Delgado?

She was very good, but she is not on stage much !
Hmmm.... I saw the show in Chicago with an understudy for Franki Valli and Bob Gaudio and with a terrible seat...and loved the crap right out of that show.
I think you should wait for a different cast and go see it again in about a year.
And PLEASE write us a Wicked review tommorow!

And/or just don't see it on Broadway.
suicidalmickeymouse, which Bob and Frankie understudies did you see?
Off the top of my head, I know that Steven M. Goldsmith (who was freaking fantastic, way better than Jarrod Spector in my opinion) went on as Franki. Can't remember the Bob, I'll have to look in my playbill. I'll edit the post when I figuire it out.

I completely agree. Goldsmith is the best Frankie in that cast.
Was your Bob tall and buff (Jake Speck) or shorter and sorta buff (Ryan Quinn West)?

...and fly to Las Vegas or Chicago or catch the touring cast in a city near you. :)

Oh, you got me worried now, GMF... Only yesterday, I booked a ticket to see it in June cause I am absolutely nuts about the cast recording and promo vids (just like you). Now I hope I'm not going to be as disappointed as you are.
Any more details on Michael Longoria? JLY has such a distinctive voice, I can imagine it's awfully hard to top him.

Here's a sampling, if you haven't seen this:

It was Jake Speck, LizzieCurry.
Thanks for the YouTube link, BWNUT. I'm afraid I do prefer JLY. But I'll definitely give Michael Longoria the benefit of the doubt when I see it.
I saw it in chicago and John Michael Dias was Frankie and I think jake speck was bob. i don't really remember. it was in december. but i loved it.
Wow.
I've never met anyone who disliked this show.
Finally! (It's always good to have various views. I mean, the show has to have SOME flaws, right?)
Thanks for sharing your opinion and being honest GMF. Hopefully the next show will be better.
Have a great trip!
