GREASE: The long-run champ without a Tony

I was in a production of Grease years ago at a community theatre - we had a great, young cast and we used the original book and stuck to it. We even did "All Choked Up" at the end. Everything was different, and much raunchier than the movie. Even Cha-Cha is not the hot bombshell, but she's referred to as "Godzilla."

I had a blast. The original show doesn't get the credit it deserves. The movie's great, but they really are two different animals.

The subsequent revivals make me want to kill myself. Worse than dinner theatre in Florida.

The actor looks like Paul Regina who starred in the TV show "Brothers"...he also played Kenickie at some point.

Did you forget about "Oh, Calcutta!"?

(I know I would like to.)

The commerical that Michael Bennet posted was, I think, played in theaters when the movie came out. I remember seeing the movie and a commercial advertising the Broadway show was played after the final credits. Notice that they mention "Live" and "You can reach out and touch it."
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Thank you, LaLaLand. BROTHERS is indeed where I know him from.

And thanks for the other commercial, gothampc. Although interesting as a curiosity, Paul Regina praising the show in rhymed couplets didn't tell me much about what I would actually see.

I wonder how many people thought GREASE showed the 1950s as written by Moliere?

I believe the actor in that commercial is Paul Regina. He comes from Patchogue, Long Island and starred in many musicals at Patchogue-Medford High School. He starred in a cable series called BROTHERS--a comedy about three brothers; two were hard-hats and the third (Regina) was gay.
