Strange. Arthur's words are apparently so strong/immortal they resist translation!

Some of the productions in Rio de Janeiro, other ones in Sao Paulo, all of them only in Portuguese. When a musical opens in Rio, one year later Sao Paulo receives the same production and vice-versa.
Gipsy and La Cage will open in Rio next month. Spring Awakening is a solid hit in Rio now as well as Hairspray.
"SING OUT LOUISE" in portuguese ? "Cante alto Louise", ok?

It's very impressive. I guess Buenos Aires might not be the theatre capital of South America as I thought after all.
We had August Osage County, Bernarda Alba, Young Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera and Piaf, last year. And of course, hundreds, and I truly mean hundreds of local plays and musicals.
Good for Brazil and the cultural movemente in Latin America!
I hear Mexico DF also has a very good theatre activity.

Dear Muscle23ftl:
I live in Brazil but, despite the local american musical productions that I've mentioned in my post, I agree with you : Buenos Aires is still the biggest South American theatre center.Where else (beyond Broadway) can we find an amazing street like Calle Corrientes? Yes, now in Brazil we have a lot of big productions. But remember: in two cities.I'm a big fan of the musicals of Argentina. One year ago I've saw a beautiful production of EVA PERON (not EVITA, right ?)with Nacha Guevara, one of the greatest actor/singer in the world.Another memorable musical: HOUDINI with Elena Rogers, before the EVITA/PIAF/LONDON fame. And talking about GYPSY: the first South American production of the show was in Buenos Aires in the 80's, am I right?
