Hopefully no spoilers here but if you are going Tuesday you may wanna wait to read.
WOW! What a Show.
The strongest in a while, the Gypsies really came thru this year and showed the talent that lies within every show on Broadway.
The Opening number was great, Jay Johnson and Bob were extremely funny, the GYPSY dancers were terrific and Carpathia Jenkins was Open voiced and sublime.
The cherry on top was the Broadway Insperational Voices!
A CHORUS LINE: Ten and out, performed by the 5 swings who get cut after the first 10 mins and then are out, just great and the entire cast (sans Charlotte, of course) backed them up.
THE LION KING: RED A jazzy song about positivity so well sang and danced by the company, great choreography and really a nice number.
TARZAN, not really sure what this skit was about, some crazy guy running around and marking people up and then they made a giant AIDS ribbon, to Gershwin, no less, maybe someone could explain it to me.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, (Colors of the Wind from Pocohontas)
Well they said She was Fierce and She was! Just hysterical. A crazy wide eyed and voiced Indian maiden and her animal and spirit friends. LMAO. The colors of the costumes of the colors of the Wind were pretty also.
THE 25th ANNUAL SPELLING BEE: December's Other, Less Famous Holidays, So funny, Sarah Saltzberg's song about all the holidays we don't celebrate, Loved the Filipino Lesbian.
THE FANTASTICKS: Ok If U get the pleasure of seeing Tom Jones singing a song he and Harvey Schmidt wrote about the King of Off Broadway U can die and go to Musical Comedy Heaven right now.
What a JOY! and any song that can include the Jan Hus theatre in the lyrics is, well pure gold.
HAIRSPRAY" An adorable number celebrating the rights of Gays in New jersey with cute boys, fat girls and the voice of Diane Degarmo as a new gay Icon. That's to die for.
THE TIMES THEY ARE A'CHANGIN'
Yup, they closed (damn it) but they raised $ and wanted to perform. And Perform they Did! Michael Arden singing a song he wrote to Shakespeare's Lyrics and danced by Charlie Neshyba-Hodges, Alaine Kashman and Marty Lawson with choreography by Chase Brock, Absolutely Stunning!
SPAMALOT; taking a cue from the usual URINETOWN skit they did the BROADWAY WORLD .Com wrap up with hilarious results, the Gay Mary Poppins comment was just one of the many great jokes.
RENT: Wow (again) spotlighting the work of cast members Philip McAdoo and Tonya Beard they incorperated the work of teens they are working with in a project of inspiration and art.
What a great job they are obviously doing. The kids were just so cool and wonderful to watch.
THE DROWSY CHAPERONE; an alternative ending to their show, with a surprising tool belt ending. So Funny!
MARTIN SHORT FAME BECOMES ME: OK Marc Shaiman is a GOD! He cried, I cried, the entire audience was sniffling.
Each night they raffled off an origianl song written and sung by Marc to the highest bidder and he did one that was so touching, and moving dedicated to a Mother who took her daughter to Broadway and how the Curtain Call was Her last Bow.
I'm tearing now thinking about it. Thank You Marc.
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA; another great skit this one about Little Edie and Big Edie seeking out the longest running show and the longest running actor in a part (hysterical George Lee Andrews) at the MAJESTIC GARDENS, and they bring along their CATS (well the company of CATS) it was STAUNCH!
MAMMA MIA did a song to The Telephone Hour from BIRDIE about calling in sick for their show, clever lyrics but maybe something they don't wanna sing about.
THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED, well, I'm still in heat over this one, they used reading the shows who collected $ but didn't perform to get naked and well.. Thanks you guys. Loved the asses.
THE COLOR PURPLE, 4 Magnificent voices and 7 dancers closing the show with class and dignity, just great.
All in All a Fun amazingly Talented group of People coming together to raise money for AIDS (and other) victims using what they know best to give the audience a banquet of Riches.
BRAVO to All involved.
If you can get a ticket for Tuesday.
