"Nicholas Sparks' sentimental 1996 novel "The Notebook" is being adapted as a stage musical by actress Bethany Joy Galeotti and songwriter Ron Aniello.
Galeotti, who currently stars on the television series "One Tree Hill," approached producer and songwriter Aniello to collaborate on adapting the romance for the stage. The North Carolina-set tale traces the life-long love affair of Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson, which begins in 1932 and concludes in the 1990's.
A community theatre workshop of the musical is set to take place in Wilmington, NC, in early October. Auditions for the workshop will take place the beginning of August, also in North Carolina.
The official website for The Notebook indicates that the production is ultimately aiming for a Broadway bow..."

Posted: 7/23/09 at 4:35pmHaley James Scott adapting The Notebook? Wow as much as I'm sure this will suck, I'm actually kind of excited. The book and film still make me cry and although I can't really imagine it translating that well to the stage, I'm willing to give it a chance. I'm already imagining there will be some sort of bird song. Hmmmm.

Before the naysayers jump up and down in protest, you should realize that Mrs. Galeotti met with Nicholas Sparks on several occasions and he loved what was presented to him.
This has real potential, don't let yourselves be fooled otherwise.

Posted: 7/28/09 at 9:23pmTo be honest there's no such thing as an original musical. Many classics are based on books, plays, or even films. Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest works are all from plays and books.

Posted: 7/28/09 at 11:28pmI am very excited to hear that The Notebook will be adapted into a musical. It is one of my favorite books. It excites me even more that Bethany Joy Galeotti will be working on this piece! She has written some fantastic music and I love her voice. Personally, I think she should cast herself as Allie. She would be perfect in my opinion.
