German star Katharine Mehrling

I saw her as Evita in Vienna and she was astonishing, truly an incredible voice. A friend saw her concert last year in Berlin and apparently her Piaf interpretations are incredible. She's making her NY debut at Joe's Pub next weekend 9/22. She's a huge star in Germany and Austria - anyone else see her ?

She seems to have starred in every major musical produced in Berlin?!  Any idea what she plays in her set?  I checked out Amazon and there's not a lot of music available here.

Actually she is not such a huge star here in Germany. She seldomly plays the big open end shows. I think Evita was an exception and a lot of people didn't like here interpretation of the role. I saw her once in Dortmund in Funny Girl and thought she was outstanding. A huge stage presence and a very special voice. She is quite popular in Berlin though.

Saw her concert last year while visiting Berlin. She was incredible. Great voice, lots of charm.

She opened with Both Sides Now in German. She did a little Marlene Dietrich. She did a lot of Piaf in French. She did her favorite American artist (I won’t Give it away). She sang Frank Mills From Hair. A song she wrote about Berlin. She finished with a medley of songs from shows she was in. Her encore was more Piaf. Tremendous stage presence.

We saw Girl from the North Country matinee and Katharine Mehrling in the evening, so a full day at The Public.  Katharine Mehrling blew me away in Berlin and she was equally exciting in her NY debut. She received at least three standing ovations, something I've never seen at The Pub. Loved the Dietrich and the perfect Piaf, but my favorite addition had to be a medley that began, surprisingly, with Like a Virgin, continued with unexpected interpretations of Madonna songs, and then climaxed with a thunderous Shirley Bassey's "My Life".  I have a feeling she'll be back after the warm embrace she got last night.
