Get X Show To Happen Petitions

Very often I see people posting things like, "sign this petition to bring "x" show to Broadway". Aside from Be More Chill, which I guess was brought to Broadway because of fan enthusiasm, word of mouth and producer faith in the show, what has this actually worked for if the person posting is serious? I know I sometimes say "revive 'x' show" but I'm obviously not thinking it'll happen. I don't take it literally. However there are people who actually post a literal petition. Does this happen?

It means a lot of people are ridiculous. Even if you had fifty thousand people sign a petition -- how many houses does that fill? A month of performances? 6 weeks?



The only "petition" that I can remember recently that had any impact (entertainment wise) was about bringing Betty White to SNL.
