Know someone who is a part of the cast/crew.
Find a chorus member, tell them how great they are, and how you saw them in something else and how amazing of a performer that they are, blah blah blah, tell them that you'd like to meet them after the show....sucking up always helps...
Actually, I'm kidding....Unless you have a reason to be backstage, (know a performer, musician, etc.) then don't try to push your luck, see the show, go home, review it on here and sleep tight.
i remember the Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids (BCEFA) was having an auction for that..

Get friendly with the stage door guy. (especially the one at the Marquis)
Blair, what is his name? That guy was amazing and incredibly sweet! My dad has knee probs and he let my dad come in and sit down while i waiting in the FREEEEEZING cold for Foster and Burke (apparently he and my dad had a nice convo). I LOVE ALL THE 8x10s hanging up in there!

Well, it's basically the only way to get backstage. You've got to know someone. That's how I'm getting backstage in L.A.

Or you could donate a whole lot of money to BC/EFA. I think most theatres will let you if you do that.

the two times I got backstage were more luck than knowing somebody. But from what I heard, Megan seems to get everybody backstage. I got backstage twice at Wicked--once was just pure luck, and the other was because they had one amazing, inredible witch in that show...which I'm sure by my name you can guess. :)
Backstage isn't like a petting zoo - you don't just go because you feel like it. I've been, but because people have offered to bring me, not because I've gone asking everyone and their mother how to get there, or by inventing connections.

I feel like we cover this topic every other day.
Backstage isn't glamorous. Backstage is crowded and hectic.....
There's a sign backstage at the Shubert that says "This boat only has enough room for those who row".... in other words, if you don't belong there, you shouldn't be there.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
I've been backstage at the shubert a couple of times....
I've not had to row..
If it was public access, there'd be a sign saying "Come on in, wathc your step"
"I've been, but because people have offered to bring me, not because I've gone asking everyone and their mother how to get there, or by inventing connections."
You disgust me. You are turning into my least favorite person ever! You imp!

If I ever watch a show from backstage, I am usually with the SM/crew member learning about what they do for that production. The company has the right away. If they are running towards you, get the heck out of their way.
You can always try to get backstage the old-fashioned way ---- practice, practice, practice...... go audition, get casted, and lots of rehearsal. Talent may help.
If that is out of the question, perhaps you can resort to bribery
You get cast not casted.
When i saw "Doubt" in March. Cherry Jones told the Door Manager to let us all in and wait for her(it was like 40 degrees with a 10 degree windchill). She was cool

Hahaha!
Frankly, I always feel like Im in the way when I'm backstage. There have only been a few times (dark days or the last days of a load out) when I haven't felt like I was in the way or intruding

I've been backstage several times on several different shows. It's nothing special.

CJR for someone who feels as if they are intruding and in the way it seems the solution to that would be to stop going back stage. Updated On: 7/14/05 at 11:47 PM
