I'm flying into NYC next month and I already had purchased my tickets to see a Sat. Mat performance of Lend Me A Tenor. If I catch a cab, can I make it to Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson for a 5pm curtain on Saturday? Thanks!

Probably, but with a slim margin for error.

VERY slim. Tenor is about 2:20-2:30.
I think on a Saturday that'd be too risky, even getting a cab...the traffic in midtown is pretty ridiculous on weekend afternoons.

I second the R or W idea. You will DEFINITELY get there faster on the train. Go from the Music Box to the 47th street stop. You will get in the station and down to the platform way faster if you go to 47th and broadway then trying to wade through the masses at 42nd street. Take the R or the W (the yellow trains) to 8th street.
I would say take the subway, but the waits on weekends (or in general) seem a lot longer nowadays, whereas with a cab, once you get past 34th street, it'll be smooth sailing downtown.

Its not about length of cab ride, its GETTING a cab in times square. A very VERY difficult task, especially when shows are letting out.
If you are set on taking a cab you have to ATLEAST walk to 6th ave and pray that others haven't done the same.
I'm doing the same thing but with Everday Rapture, which is a far shorter show than Tenor. Definitely the subway, though.

Have a metrocard handy, Leaving the theater, go east, when you get to Times Sq make a left, train stop for the R & W is under Olive Garden, across from TKTS Booth. Be sure to NOT Get on the N Train, they all run on the same line.
Get off at the West 8th Station go East on 8th to Lafayette, then make a right, theater is half way in that block.
That is your best bet and will be the quickest way to get downtown. If you take a cab you will be sitting in traffic, guaranteed. I took a cab by Lincoln Center a few Saturdays ago, we were heading to 44th Street. Figured Ninth Ave would be the quickest moving route, It took us 30 minutes to get 15 blocks, we had to bail out at 52nd Street and walk the remainder of the way.
You can take the N, actually. On weekends it runs local and will stop on 8th Street/NYU.
