I'm taking some students to see SPelling Bee (45 or so) in a couple of months. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get one of them into the show? Is there someplace we can go to be picked?
Before the show, there are sign up sheets aviliable in the lower lobby of the theater in which you can sign up your name and they interview you (what's your name, job ect...). Its a fun process. I have heard thought that if you say you're an actor, they don't pick you or have a tendency not to pick you. Its a very easy process though.
In the lobby there is a guy with a clipboard and he asked questions and then you have to get asked more questions at this table, but you have to wait in line. So I guess there is a slight chance to get in, but you never know. You could lie and say it's their birthday, but what ever.

When I saw the show, there was a little boy who got picked to be a speller.
Is it worth calling ahead maybe and asking you think? Or should I just wait till I get there...? What time do we need to be there?

Don't bother calling. You'll just end up talking to some intensely rude person. Just wait until you get there and play it by ear.
It's a matter of luck...last night I took some advice I read here and didn't say I was an actress and I mentioned I was wit ha big group from school, but I didn't get picked There were a lot of people signing up though, so who knows. They generally pick one younger kid, an older person, and two 20-30ish people. Good luck, and the show is a blast even if you don't get on stage =)

I thought the same thing about saying that you were an actor. I took a few kids to see the show and one of them wanted to be a guest speller. When they asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up she said "an actress". I told her sister then and there that she wasn't going to get picked because she said that. 10 minutes later when they called the names, her's was the first one called!!! So I guess it is really just a matter of luck!
this is how it goes down.....the writers write jokes before the show and the guy with the CLIPBOARD tries to find people that fits the jokes.....i know the 2nd night i saw the show a woman had on glittered sliver shoes and when she went up to spell they said,"ms. smith is a frequent shopper @ the Wicked Gift Shop next door!" LOL ....so it's basically all a matter of luck tend to pick, " non actors" the regular people if you will ...how do i know this?! i attend the school and i know the stage manager and she told me lol
