Ghost "successful" Broadway Season - marketing spin or blatant lying?

In what world did Ghost have a successful Broadway season? It's hard to find a single criterion for successful: Financial performance, reviews or awards.

But that's what they're telling Australian audiences to convince them to buy tickets to the official Australian production (which I must admit I am looking forward to).

Still, marketing spin (or blatant lying) is annoying to see. I suppose it's ripe in this industry though (how many times has a blatant flop been called a 'hit broadway show'?).

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Well, it was "successful" in that they GOT TO BWAY. Or that they didn't DIE, or even send anyone to the hospital. And then there's the success of people actually buying tix and every perf - never an empty house!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Successful is generic enough to not be a lie, just like everything at the grocery store is "healthy" and "all-natural."

They get to determine what success means, and therefore it is true. Whereas "box office smash" could be disproven.

Funny, this evening I heard an ad on the radio for it and they were trying to sell it based on the director having done Matilda. How that is meant to sell tickets to Melbourne audiences who haven't seen Matilda yet is beyond me! They should just focus on it being based on the movie and starring Rob Mills and Jemma Rix (although they should mention who she is - if people can't tell that Glinda and Elle Woods were played by the same person, they stand no chance with the green one!), even though I'm kind of hoping to see Samm Hagen in the role instead.

Trying to make the Minchin connection, maybe? Still a stretch...
