Ghost Quartet vs. Sweeney Todd- can only see one!

I'm planning a quick work trip to NYC in Oct. and am going to try to see a show. I already have tickets for The Band's Visit (on a separate personal trip), so I'm looking at either Sweeney Todd or Ghost Quartet. I realize GQ is Oct-only, which might tip the scales in its favor. I've never seen ST, though, and this production looks really interesting.

Thoughts?

I say go with Ghost Quartet. Definitely. It's a unique piece of theatre, and a fascinating experience.

Sweeney is interesting, but the production is messy and gimmicky. You'll have plenty of opportunities to see better productions in years to come.

I love both, but Sweeney just extended through to 2018, so I would go see it on another trip. Go see Ghost Quartet this time.

Ghost Quartet is going to be a supper hard ticket to get... I called over to NYTW to get the scoop (on sale date, price...) and was told they have no idea but expect to have something put together by the end of this week-next week at the latest. They said 100s of people are calling every day about tickets to the show

I really just hope they keep it affordable so i don't get priced out ($75-100 is my max for Off-Broadway)

I knew it was going to be popular, but wow.

I'm hoping to see both of these shows on a quick NYC trip toward the end of October, but I am definitely concerned that we're not going to be able to get tickets for Ghost Quartet at all.

Carolee Carmelo is giving one of the best musical theater performances... maybe ever. The production is probably not the best introduction to the material, though, and it will be playing for awhile. Even you're even kind of a fan of Carolee, don't miss Sweeney.

Ghost Quartet is pretty great... but it's also something that you can appreciate as an album. If you're a fan of the performers, don't miss it... but you can appreciate the craft of the songs by listening to the CD.

Well, NYTW has another show opening in the same space on November 8th, so GQ would have to find another venue (which seems fairly reasonable).

What space? Didn't Dave Malloy say they were looking for an unconventional space?

The October run is at this black box space with NYTW, part of a new series they're starting this season.

Dave did make a post looking for a unique space, but that must have been before NYTW made their arrangements, or it'll be afterward...
