Glad everyone is enjoying it! And on a small note, I can't speak for most of the other shows that were out this year, but to a couple of you who said Climb Ev'ry Mountain from Sound of Music, my hats off! Many other songs are more well-known or popular, but that has always been my favorite song from that show!
I understand why the Tonys don't actually give out this award, as in many cases, it would just go to the same people who won best score. But it just seems that there are certain songs that stand out so much, especially those of a mediocre score, that I just feel they deserve to have some sort of right to say best song, such as perhaps "Memory" or especially "Seasons of Love" which almost everyone has agreed on. Maybe the best song gets to be played on regular music stations, or at least adult contemp. or lite stations. Okay, totally unrealistic, but I enjoy living in lala land.
Margo, I like your idea, though if it were to be done on a Monday night, it would be pretty hard to sell to the basic stations, I could see it more being shown on Bravo. The only way to play it on basic would be to have it on a Saturday night, not that I have any problem with it being on Bravo, but just a thought.
My other question I thought of is your rule about every show gets one...if you stick to the rule I had, which is only new songs written purely from the show could be considered, then that means this year for instance, no song from Good Vibrations or All Shook Up would be eligible for the award. Again, not a fan of jukebox musicals, really not something I would have a problem with...
