re: Glenn Beck is 'Only For Now' in Avenue Q Tour

"Musicsnob, to be honest with you I do think that you're incorrect about one thing. And, that is the whole notion that people would react the same way in New York if they used a liberal's name in that song. They wouldn't. No matter where you're from, New York is known for being a very liberal state. And, there I can't even begin to tell you the number of stories I have heard about the Bush line getting different reactions from city to city during the show's first national tour. "

That is EXACTLY what we're saying. That the REASON the lyrics received such warm reception is because of the fact that Broadway is the most liberal of the liberal elite. Of course it was going to get a great reaction from the crowd.

The idea BEHIND the lyrics is that problems in government will always persist. Regardless of who the President is. Even Obama. And keep in mind, I am a bleeding heart Democrat, left wing nutcase, who proudly voted for and proudly still support Obama.

The rest of the county does view the northeast as elitists. I am not saying this is correct, but its how it is. It has little to do with income and more to do with attitude. You have your own stereotypes of the South and other parts of the country. It is what it is.

This is a fantastic article from David Brooks about his time in red states, vs. blue states and how the two view each other. Another great read is "What's the Matter With Kansas?"

The line got applause when I saw the tour, and this was in a very Republican area.

Winston, you make some valid points EXCEPT for...

" think that a majority of those people who did/do, never understood that politics is a process, and that in order to get something done you have to follow that process (could take a while) and you have to realize that just because he is the President."

It has nothing to do with the "process". I am strictly addressing those promises that he made during his campaign and then turned around, rather, and did the opposite. Refused to support bills & ideas that he happened to support during election season. What a joke.

It's not about following this process that you speak about. It's about quack flip-flopping on political issues and trying his best to hide the conservative values that he believes. God Forbid someone can't be a conservative who is politically liberal. They exist... Trust me!!!

MusicSnob,

I feel that I am viewing this a little differently then you are. I feel that Obama is coming into his first full year in office. I fee that it is hard to judge what promises he has made and kept and those that he didn't. Only because there is more time left on the clock. I wouldn't call his presidency a failure by any means because there is still time to for him to do that which he has promised. Or at least some of it.

So, I don't consider him to be a flip flopper because there is still more time on the clock and the game isn't over yet so to speak.

I also feel that this so called rockstar vision people have of him is one that is getting them more annoyed when they aren't getting taken care of when they wish to be. I think that people wouldn't be so upset nor would he be so scrutinized if that fantasy of him weren't around.

Why is this thread still going? it's just allowing Spork to spew his/her political opinions with the basis of an inane subject (that a puppet musical with multicultural characters and uber-liberal creators -- one of whom is gay -- that has its basis in the most liberal city in the United States, should change its one political line of dialogue to mock Democrats rather than daffy, widely-mocked Republicans).

Seriously, there gets to be a point when humoring someone gives way to just allowing them to preach and ramble (and preaching and rambling with ridiculous statements like "[George W. Bush] was vastly preferable to Obama").

It's f***ing AVENUE Q. Save your rabid conservative energies for other purposes.

Edit: You know what, never mind. It's finals week, I'm already stressed enough as it is. I'll stop "spewing my conservative propaganda" now.
