I like it. A lot.

Perfect!

When I saw it in Sydney earlier this year, it was 'swine flu'

re: Glenn Beck is 'Only For Now' in Avenue Q Tour

I went to see Up in the Air at the Union Square movie theater on Monday and there was a preview for some special one night only Christmas special Glenn Beck was doing. People started booing and screaming at the screen, and I had no idea who he was because I don't watch Fox News.

I guess people really hate this guy, so he seems like a good alternative to the George Bush line.

The tour is much more current and changes their "For Now" line from time to time. This is their third one that I've heard about. First it was Swine Flu, then Fox News & now Glenn Beck.

I approve...

You shouldn't have to watch Fox News to know who he is.

TF4 what line did they use when we saw it? Was it "Glenn Beck"?

I'm drawing a blank.

Anyway, no one hates this show more than me but even I had to admit the current tour is quite excellent and the actors are absolutely wonderful in their roles. A pleasant surprise.

There was nothing sweater than going to the tour of Avenue Q on the day after Election and hear the last 'George Bush' for the tour. I know that for sure because I went two days later and they did 'Your Mother-In-Law'.

Glenn Beck's a good choice. There is a Morton Downey Jr. 'crash-and-burn' quality to him.

I remember going into a movie theatre in Cambridge MA with my brother prior to a showing of Wild Things. It is true, there was a preview advertising a movie with Beck being described as "a classic American tale that only Glen Beck can tell us." My brother then quickly replied to me, a tale where he convinces the public that perfectly normal people are really Nazis and that this is really a communist nation that we live in.

I agree that the line should have been changed to "Barack", because like "sex" and "your hair", it's a negative that they are "only for now". If you miss George W. Bush, then you deserved him.

re: Glenn Beck is 'Only For Now' in Avenue Q Tour

I rolled my eyes when the line was "George Bush" and I would still roll my eyes now. It'd only be fair to make it Obama, but nope, God forbid you speak ill of a Democrat in a Broadway show.

Oh, and why did no one speak out about misusing Hitler comparisons when it was directed towards Bush?

re: Glenn Beck is 'Only For Now' in Avenue Q Tour

As a bleeding heart liberal, pansy, wussy, Bush-hating, Democrat, I would never ever allow anyone to get away with comparing Bush to Hitler. I think its the not only the overstatement of the century. Bush did many things wrong in his Presidency, but it is beyond irresponsible to compare him to history's worst dictator.

Glenn Beck, in my mind, is the epitome of what is wrong with America. He speaks out of his @$$, and people just blindly follow what he says like its law. I can not stand pundits, whether they're democrat, republican, communists, whatever. In my mind, they are completely fair game to be made fun in a Broadway show. The fact that he's a right-wing nut job just makes it a little funnier re: Glenn Beck is 'Only For Now' in Avenue Q Tour

Glad to hear it; I also hate Hitler comparisons unless the person in question has actually systematically murdered millions of people.

I hate all pundits as well. I just wish Avenue Q would be a little more politically balanced in whom they choose to list.

re: Glenn Beck is 'Only For Now' in Avenue Q Tour

I was never a fan of the George Bush line either, and I'm a pretty pinko commie librul. Avenue Q is an extremely liberal-friendly/leaning show, but I don't really care to hear the political views of the creative team in a fairly non-political show. It took me out of the song, to be honest.

I can see where people might be turned off by that. But maybe because its my own political leanings, I just found it funny.

But is it any different than other political leanings in shows? RENT had some political undertone to it, as does HAIR. Hair even took a day off to go rally for a very liberal cause, with the blessings of the producers. And while I haven't seen Finian's Rainbow, from what I have heard...there is some undertone in that too. Broadway is a liberal place. It is what it is.

I think Lizzie's saying is that it doesn't fit in with the rest of Avenue Q. Hair is a political show, so you expect it.

Correct me if I am wrong, of course.
