Mama did not realise you were an aficionado on cows too!
I read in todays Daily Mail that Billy 'Tony' has taken $20m so far and is expected to take $3m this weekend.
Billy you have done it, you have recouped, amazing reviews, going do well at the Tony's!
I started a thread on Billy Elliot in April this year, which I quote my paragraph below.
"This great show is opening on the Great White Way in October, but how do you think America will receive a show that is very English"?
Well I can only apoligise I got it so wrong, very wrong in fact, but for once it is nice to be wrong. One mitigating fact in favour I was badly advised by someone on this site, who does not post anymore, he went by the name 'Wickedboy2'!
I had to go back in the labyrinth of Broadway World to retrieve this thread, as this one brings happy memories.
Things just get better for this gem of a show. Not only has Billy been nominated for 15 Tony's, it has scooped 7 Outer Critics awards for;
Outstanding New Broadway Musical Outstanding New Score (Broadway or Off-Broadway) Outstanding Director of a Musical Outstanding Choreographer Outstanding Lighting Design (Play or Musical) Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical
Special Achievement Award *For their performances in Billy Elliot: David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, Kiril Kulish
I do not want to see any musical do badly, but I love it when a British show does well, especially on Broadway, where judging by the other board our American friends seem more passionate than we do about Billy.
Congratulation to Shrek for scooping four awards, look forward to seeing you soon.
None whatsoever. I'm finding it strange here in New York hearing people say that the 3 boys shouldn't be nominated, just one! Why? They are not each other understudies or covers or standbys or swings. They are all Billy Elliot. Ewan McGregor graciously stood aside and let the London Billy's take centre stage and he did it with pride that such young talent was being awarded.
I would love to see it here but sadly time does not permit.
Its not a transatlantic thing - there was zero controversy over the Billys winning the Helpmann and Green Room in Sydney and Melbourne, respectively.
I don't get the problem - for the Billys to win, they all have to be incredible or they risk losing 1/3 of potential votes ... totally fair in my opinion.
That's a very good point. All three of them have to be better than each of the other nominees, so in theory it should be harder for all three of them to win than if just one of them was nominated.
In reality, they will win because they are a 12-14 year old kid playing one of the most taxing roles ever written for a child ... as Stephen Daldry says "its like playing Hamlet while running a marathon".
