I really hate the one on the left. That picture is the first I've seen of him that hasn't quite made me want to throw my monitor at the wall. And then throw myself out of the window. He's horrible.

After "Born to Boogie" Billy doesn't do a flip, he does the "Billy jump". There are also changing the choreography throughout the show to accommodate the boy who is Billy. Not exact things, but small things throughout the show.

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

Each boy has his own style built in to his relative performance if thats what you mean? Each boy you see will be totally different! Thats the way the show is built- around the individual talent of each Billy!

Oh... but I had these were actual directional changes that differed from the production.

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

Just checked the readers review section in the influential New York Times, well the 7 people who seen the show awarded a motley 4.5 out of 5 stars for this, which sounds like its on a winner. Also the 3 people who reviewed Billy Elliott, gave such good reviews that a producer day would be made if the savage hacks printed this in there reviews in November.

Just out of interest I wonder if Brantley and Barnes have seen the show in London, to get the lowdown?

There are also changing the choreography throughout the show to accommodate the boy who is Billy.

It's like that in all productions - and always has been.

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

Phantom - Ben Brantley did indeed see the show in london when it first opened and gave it a rave review

LONDON, June 19 - Why, it's almost like being in love. The concentrated dose of ecstasy called "Billy Elliot: The Musical," at the Victoria Palace Theater here, induces symptoms described in old-time romantic ballads by the likes of Lerner and Loewe or Rodgers and Hart: giddiness, misty eyes, increased pulse rate, loss of all sense of time and blindness to faults in the object of your affection, at least as long as you're in its company....

....Mr. Darling's choreography is surely the most fully integrated ever in an English musical and the most inventive seen on either side of the Atlantic in many a year....

....You have to go back a long time to find a musical as thoroughly integrated, perhaps all the way to the first production of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd," a musical as chilling as "Billy Elliot" is warming.

There is already debate about whether "Billy Elliot" will eventually move to Broadway. Certainly, it lacks the surface glitter and arch references to other musicals that now seem de rigueur for big Broadway hits. Instead of winking condescendingly at the sentimental clichés that drive its plot, it finds the eternal life in them. For all its conscious craftsmanship, it's the most unself-conscious musical in decades. Speculation has it that with its thick regional accents, local slang and period political references, "Billy Elliot" may be too British for Broadway. A more alarming thought is that while this show forges a visceral connection with its audience in a way American musicals were once famous for, "Billy Elliot" may simply be too full of real feeling for the synthetic Broadway of today.

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

Sister George, many thanks for posting the link, I read the review in whole and it did come across as very generous, which Billy Elliot deserves, I can see the show coming to Broadway and getting a opposite review, being labelled something like 'to quintessential English for a American audience"!

I loved the last line too!

Checked on the New York Times reader’s reviews and can happily report the 5 reviews now lodged, it has garnered 5 out of 5 stars, which is stunning response.

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

As I type this the curtain (or if you have seen the show, it falls down, after the projection wheel finishes) is about to go up at the Imperial Theatre. It is going to be judged by very harsh critics whether it is worthy enough for a New York audience, I am sure it will be well received!

Well just want to say good luck and all the best, from a British fan, who adores you and hope you will be loved in America as much as it is in the UK.

Just a couple of tips though, when you get your great reviews, don't even think of butchering the show to 32 minutes, for a grand Las Vegas production, it really does not work as a load of other shows have proven in Las vegas.

However if the unthinkable and unlikely happens and Ben and Clive have had a big fall out and slag you in the morning, do not dare consider cutting your losses and consider doing the show where the actor/musician are one, a bloke on violin shouting "dance you f*(%$£! Twat", really will not work!

WOW! WOW! WOW!
Blimey Mrs Wilkinson!
I've ben sent about 12 or 13 reviews and they are all brilliant! The show has been received like the producers could only have prayed for!
Broadway has a new Hit!
Broadway has a new British hit!
Well done son!

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

I have read the reviews in the New York Post and the New York Times, cannot think of anywhere else I can read a review, help?

Think what I have read so far we will be looking at 'Tony Elliot'?

re: Go On Billy Son, You Can Do It!

My favourite comedy review of Billy is the Wall Street Journals'

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122661564681526123.html?mod=article-outset-box#articleTabs%3Darticle

complete with the headline Karl Marx in a Tutu.....

Strikes me (no pun intended) that sending the Wall Street Journal to review a musical set amongst striking miners makes about as much sense as sending a vegetarian to review Sweeney Todd or Sarah Palin to review a production of Around The World in 80 Days.....
