God Save Our Singers From Soaps

Eden also just starred in "Millie" in New England this past summer.
Doing AMC enables her to do theater, her first love, financially (same old argument).
I guess this means my attempt to get Soccer Ball a contract on B&B, Y&R, or GH whilst in L.A. will be frowned upon in some quarters here.

Posted: 11/3/06 at 11:23amSoccer Ball would do well on GH - there are three little kids who are the right age to be on teams.

Posted: 11/3/06 at 11:31amAh, but it would have to be a short-term contract, or perhaps recurring - since the Piazza tour continues on to Washington, D.C. in mid-December. Otherwise, after Toronto next summer?

If soccer ball was on Days Of Our Lives, it would either play a minion of Satan, or the writers would age it into a bowling ball within a matter of months.
What's-his-name from Hairspray also started with a brief stint on Days. Austin something...the guy who grew up not too far from me.

I wonder how happy Soccer Ball is with his agent.
He, and rest assured Soccer Ball is a he, seems ripe for poaching.
Soccer Ball would throw a hissy if obligated to perform in soap opera!
re: God Save Our Singers From Soaps#33
Posted: 11/3/06 at 3:11pmA lot of very talented people started on soaps.....John Stamos, Anne Heche, Julianne Moore, Tommy Lee Jones...just to name a few. The soaps employ a ton of actors that may not get the chance to do any acting at all, whether it be an under-five role or as an extra. Give it a rest already. Why the beef with the soaps?
re: God Save Our Singers From Soaps#34
Posted: 11/3/06 at 3:18pmI agree that soaps are slimy and crappy, and I would much rather that our "singers" and good broadway actors and actress in general didn't do them, but sometimes you need a paycheck. That being said, if anyone picked a soap over a theater show, shame shame on them though.

Keep our singers out of sleazy, banal soaps!
Give them stages to sing and dance upon!
Let them do what they were born and trained to do, not the trash of soaps!

Nom and I usually agree (particularly on Soccer Ball issues) but not this time.
I have worked with too many theater actors on too many soaps who were more than pleased to be there, get paid very well, and still have the time off to appear in stage projects concurrently.
In fact, I can't think of any actor who griped at the time (only after they became much bigger successes elsewhere did they seem to put down soaps).
Also, unlike working in films (where location shooting and very long days are involved and restrict outside activities) soaps, within reason, usually give stage people the opportunity to simultaneously appear in stage projects.
Having worked many years on both daytime and prime time soaps, I am biased on this topic. But I think, in general, you'll find actors (and certainly agents) are more than eager to join the soap world (hell, even Elizabeth Taylor at her peak, well near her peak, did - a story which is getting renewed coverage these days with the 25th anniversary stories about Luke and Laura's wedding and their return to GH).
I suspect much of this God Save Our Singers from Soaps campaign is tongue in cheek and so will treat it that way.
But, Nom???? - if Soccer Ball is given the chance to take a leading role on a major soap, should we just turn it down????

Geez, IssaMe, keep in mind POV.
The point of view of the theatrical audience deprived of the glorious sound, and generally motion, that a singing performer can make on stage!
And as for Soccer Ball, how absolutely corrupt of you not to consider the lack of bounce in such a career! Soccer Ball was not meant to become a talking head!
Think of his (I don't like to think of SB as an "it") washball abs and how they will suffer!

I have yet to see a soap contract that prevents a performer from appearing with glorious sound, and generally motion, on stage (so long as it does not conflict with the soap schedule...and usually provisions are made to shoot around midweek matinees).
And, dearest Nom, I take great pride in being "absolutely corrupt" - it helped me survive in your "sleazy, banal" world of soaps for many years.

IssaMe, you are so serious, don't drop the ball there!
If you and Soccer Ball can make some quick rent at it--ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT. With outs in the contract.
The only serious issue here is the lack of continuous stages and suffient pay to keep all our dancing songbirds out of boxes and on the boards.
Soccer Ball, looks like you're being sold down river...like an object!

Most people like TV, too.
It depends what you want to get from it, how intently you watch it, etc.
For me it is brain death.
