I'm through four episodes and really enjoying it so far. Sometimes the best praise you can give a show like this is that it is so easy to watch; the world Jenji and the other writers have created is wonderfully detailed and richly observed, and this ensemble of amazing women is a blessing.
Also, it's worth pointing out to beautywickedlover that of the regulars, Biggs' story is (to where I've gotten at least) easily the least essential and most decentralized of the show. It's very easy to enjoy the show and forget he's there, if you are unable to separate an artist from the art (which I hope you aren't, as it's a pretty stark affliction if you have it.)
Also, I can't resist: calling George Carlin
"a raunchy and controversial comedian" is kind of damning with faint praise. The man was a legend, one of the most prolific, profane (sure, if you can't see the linguistic forest for the trees) and most of all profound comics since the art form began.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
