Saw it in previews on 8/6. Did not really find much to like (and I am one that likes FW's work).. the sets were cool. That was about it. Someone was nice enough to get me these tix, so we are going for the atmosphere.

I saw Dracula twice and found it to be quite good. You certainly can't complain about it's ticket sales, since each preview has been virtually sold out. I am not a big Wildohorn fan, but I think that Dracula will end up being one of his best shows. I found the music to be quite complimentative to the story as well as the time period. I think that Tom Hewitt and Melissa Ericco are stunning as Dracula and Mina, and the scenic elements are quite amazing without being too over-the-top. I always find it interesting how many of the members of this board are never willing to give a show a chance. If you haven't seen the show, then you really should have nothing negative to say. You shouldn't always believe everything that you hear from people on this board, or in general until you've seen it for youself. Dracula has been selling out the Belasco almost during most of it's preview performances, and that is an extremely good sign. Why don't you just wait until the reviews come out, go see the show for yourself, and then make your decision!

I was there on critics' night and trust me, they are NOT going to be good. And I have to agree with them. I, too, am a fan of Wildhorn but this was not good. He was at the show and I wanted to go and tell him how much I loved his music but I honestly couldn't get myself to do it after watching that material.

I really do hope that this show can be fixed. From what I heard, it's still not "frozen" which is odd but understandable. I wish they just had 2 or 3 more weeks of previews and a couple of good ol' Wildhorn pop ballads.

Hope it goes well.
I really want the show to do well. I heard Life after Life from the website and it sounds good. I have also heard that it is the shows best number if that is so I am a bit concerned. I will be going soon and hope it will be good.

'Life After Life' is IMHO the show's best number. It comes the closest to the kind of "Wildhorn-Gothic" feel that the show is trying to achieve. It's the only musical number that really drew me in.

Actually, I do want to see the show. When someone tells me a show is awful I tend to have the opposite opinion (ie: Hollywood Arms and Bells Are Ringing), so I actually might really like this.
However, there's another reason why I really want to go to the opening rather than some other performance.
Damn me and my having no pull with that show

Mattio,..since you're mentioning the critics, the pop element is what the critics hate about Wildhorn. I thought Dracula was much more theatrical than we're use to hearing from him, with some good waltzes (The Master's Song and How Do I Choose?)some quiet, haunting melodies (The Mist), and some more complex layered melodies that play upon musical themes. I do think some of the typical Wildhorn fans may be disappointed here with the lack of a repetitive, pop, crescendo driven ballad sound that his other shows had. There are big showstopping songs here, but they are more rooted in traditional theatre this time.

The intermission was just fine on Tuesday. I think they got that worked out. There were, however, some sound problems. I couldn't quite hear some of the lyrics.

Stop with the DRACULA hating!!! The show is going to be just as it was in La Jolla, (which I saw.) The critics didn't have much to say, but the audiences loved it. I overheard many, many good things during intermission and the end of the show. People were ecstatic and very excited to be seeing a pre-Broadway tryout. I couldn't get it off my mind of days afterwards. It's very true to the original novel and it's very exciting and extremely sexy! God, is it sexy!!! I for one could not be more excited.
Don't listen to what the reviewers are undoubtedly gonna say. Go see it for yourself and then if you don't like it, fine. But, lord, don't just sit here and say you hate it, because the New York Times hates Frank Wildhorn. And GOD KNOWS we NEED a new hit to kill some of the WICKED threads on this board...

I agree. The critics hate Wildhorn. I happen to like him. But I was very disappointed by this. The score was almost completely devoid of the things I love about Wildhorn's music. I really hope they can somehow pull it together. And from what I heard about the La Jolla version of the show, the Broadway version has its differences. I really don't hate the show, but I didn't love it. I feel like the whole production was having an internal battle over whether to be intimate or elaborate. Much like DOTV which couldn't choose between being a farce or a gothic powerhouse. Let this be a lesson to creative staff members everywhere: You've gotta commit to SOMETHING.

Are you kidding? I was just thrilled that Tom Hewitt didn't come out singing Total Eclipse of the Heart.
