Posted: 3/1/07 at 10:57amHairspray and Wicked are vastly superior to Mary Poppins which is strictly for kids unless you're an MP fanatic. Drowsy Chaperone is fun and funny and for everyone. Curtains is just okay, no better. Spelling Bee might be a good choice. Or, dare I say it, Tarzan!

Posted: 3/1/07 at 11:28amMallardo, I am neither a MP fanatic or a child, but I thoroughly enjoyed Mary Poppins. I'm one of the few people I know who has never seen the movie, but I really had a great time.

These are all well and good, and in every case you'll leave the theatre thinking, "Y'know, that was amusing -- WAIT A SECOND! I BLEW OVER A HUNDRED BUCKS ON THAT?????"
Do yourself a favour and check off-Broadway. The shows are just as entertaining and far cheaper. Right now, there's a great little two-man show called GUTENBERG THE MUSICAL that's running off-B in prep for a Broadway move probably next season, so you can see Broadway-caliber work at about half the price. And it's howlingly good fun.
There are all kinds of options out there. Dont feel you have to restrict yourself to theatres between 41st and 54th to find a good time.

Posted: 3/1/07 at 4:52pmI highly recommend Drowsy as well. It was the first Broadway show I had the opportunity to see. And since, it has been the best experience I've had in a theatre. They might enjoy Spelling Bee as well. And I see where your coming from. For the little kids, "BROADWAY" is what they want. They aren't just going to see a great show because yes there are GREAT shows Off-Broadway. But they love it for the Broadway experience.

Regarding young teens at Legally Blonde, this blog might be useful.

Posted: 3/2/07 at 6:02amI dont think Drowsy would be the best choice, just because so much of the humor would be lost on someone who isnt a diehard theatre fan already.

Posted: 3/2/07 at 4:27pmI think you would be surprised cubanpab. Drowsy is just an overall fun show. They may not get all of the jokes but they would love the music.
