My review:
The movie was stunning. The costumes and sets were gorgeous. But there was something missing; I'm not sure what it was, but it just didn't do it for me.
I didn't believe that Raoul and Christine were in love. He came into her dressing room and they were talking for the first time since being "childhood sweethearts". Less then 30 minutes later, they're singing a passionate love song...it just didn't work for me.
I liked the fact that Christine was so entranced with the Phantom, and their relationship was more sexual...it made more sense to me.
Gerard Butler was terrible, in my opinion. His singing was really disgusting. Emmy Rossum did a wonderful job, I thought. And Patrick Wilson sung the role beautifully, and did a fine acting job as well. The highlight for me was the beautiful girl who played Meg Giry. She was perfect for the role.
Minnie Driver didn't live up to everything I've been hearing about her. I didn't really understand a lot of the things she said, and I don't like the fact that she didn't sing the role.
All together, I left feeling kind of empty. I wasn't really touched, I guess...Beautiful movie, though.

Fashion Page of CBS's Early Show give KUDOS to Patrick Wilson
Patrick Wilson ("Phantom Of The Opera" / "Angels In America") - "Hot, hot, hot!" Yalof Schwartz says. He made the look of shirt with no tie so hot. As with Jamie Foxx, again another great example of the trend of wearing no tie. Javier Bardem showed well, too.
Heck...we all know he looks HOT dressed up or casual!!!

Posted: 1/17/05 at 3:07pmWho knows (to popcultureboy)? I agree with wickedfan. I loved phantom and everything. But I'm definetly not suprised that it didn't win. I was rooting for it and thought MAYBE orig song or a SMALL CHANCE for Emmy but was not suprised that it didn't win. Not that I wasn't dissapointed, because I was. But no real shock. Oh well. I know it's not the best movie ever (or um... close) but I liked it.

Today on Live with Regis and Kelly, Joan Rivers said that Emily Rossum was one of the prettiest and nicest dressed young ladies there last night.
AND why did the ALfie song win? The song was horrible.

Minnie Driver saved Phantom for me. I went on a Minnie Driver binge and rented all her movies. Her best are The Governess, Circle of Friends, Beautiful & Phantom. We need more Minnie Driver.

Posted: 1/17/05 at 3:44pmI'm sorry but does anyone really think that Emmy should be nominated for an Oscar? Was she really one of the top 4 or 5 "ACTRESSES" of the year? I don't think so. I don't think she acted that much at all. Sorry my opinion. She had that Brittany Murphy-half open mouth-showing her front teeth-stare going on most of the time.

Posted: 1/17/05 at 6:15pmMinnie Driver ia a fine actress and i was glad that she clarified why she did not sing in the movie, esp the way she said that just 'approximating' it would not be good enough. So many people think that any popstar can sing nay role, so I am glad that MD clarified things abit. I think that the only reason that she looked pissed is because the lady asking the questions didn't know enough about the movie to know that she didn't do the actual singing..despite the fact that it's common knowledge.

Posted: 1/17/05 at 6:19pmI agree with you SWITZ, I don't think she should be nominated for an Oscar. She doesn't really deserve it in my opinion. I guess we'll see, the actresses are kind of slim pickings this year. The actor category is going to be tough, and the actresses are only sub-par this year.

I felt so bad for Emmy, I thought she deserved the best actress award. Was Gerard there? Is "Phantom" nominated for the same awards for the Oscars?
lol you know what I just realized- half the song "Phantom of the Opera" isn't on the soundtrack! You guys probably knew that though..lol

There are those who thought she was great others didn't think so much of her. It was a controversial performance in a controversial movie. She does have a chance. That's all I'm saying. Do I believe she is going to get a nom? I'll leave that to myself.
