What are some shows that you think have some good choreography on Broadway, preferably some recent shows? 42nd Street (revival) - the tap dancing was wonderful. I also enjoyed the dancing in Oklahoma!.
Thoroughly Modern Millie had great dance in it too...title song; Forget About the Boy; Nuttycracker Suite; I'm Falling in Love With Someone; the Speed Test, just to name a few.

I remember liking the choreography for the last revival of "How to Succeed." I enjoyed Mr. Cilento's choreography for "Wicked" as well. There were some wonderful moments in the Roundabout "Follies" - especially the ghosts dancing through furniture.
Sir Kenneth MacMilan's choreography for "Carousel" at Lincoln Center was incredible.

First of all, I'll start by saying Susan Stroman is a GENIUS and my idol.
Crazy for You ('92) and Contact.
The choreo for the Kiss Me Kate revival was great too (Kathleen Marshall I think).

42nd Street -- best dancing I've ever seen! Absolutely amazing.
The dancing in Little Shop's "Mushnik and Son" was very funny.
As much as I love Wicked, I didn't like the choreography in the ensemble numbers...ah well.

Posted: 7/24/04 at 11:44pmThis goes way back and I only know it from the movie CAMP, but I love Turkey Lurkey Time from "Promises, Promises". You go Michael Bennett!

Posted: 7/24/04 at 11:45pmthat was my least favorite part about the movie. That is one annoying song. BUT I LOVE CAMP, THOUGH

Posted: 7/24/04 at 11:47pmI agree, Never Gonna Dance was amaaaazing. The scene on the rooftop was really a treat. I'm also gonna have to go with Kathleen Marshall's choreography for the "Ballet at the Village Vortex" in Wonderful Town, and I loved "Snuff that Girl" in Urinetown.

Oh, Turkey Lurkey is cool in a groovy LAUGH IN sort of way.
I adore it. I grew up loving Rich Mans Frug and I'm so happy that through the movie CAMP I got to know more of Michael Bennett's work.
Saw Margo Sappington at the MET week before last and she is going to get together with me to reminisce about Turkey Lurkey asap.

Fosse, definitely.
More modern musical, I'd have to say Aida over Wicked (imo, the ensemble is the weakest part of that show). Aida has the boy-bandish stuff (i.e. Aonther Pyramid), and Disney-fied versions of belly-dancing and, uh, tribal African dancing. (I emphasize the term "Disney-fied".) Nevertheless, that ensemble and the choreography is great.

Posted: 7/25/04 at 12:20amGetting down to specific songs, "Snuff that Girl" and "Run Freedom Run" had enjoyable choreography. Or, anything with tap dancing scores a point in my book.

Posted: 7/25/04 at 12:46amEven though I thought Sweet Smell of Success was a mess... the choreography was wonderful. I really enjoyed watching the chorus in the background in the bar scenes and during the dance numbers. Wonderful stuff. I don't even remember who choreographed it. I think it was someone from NYCB or ABT who had never done a musical before. Whoever it was, it was great.

Posted: 7/25/04 at 12:52amIf that is the John Lithgow musical, the choreographer is Christopher Wheeldon, a Brit who was a member of NYCB.
