It might have some kind of small run like "swing" or one of those now forgotten shows did.

how about we all make a new years resolution to NOT JUDGE shows unless we see them first???

I'm guilty of this and we all need to stop.. it will cause less pain here and we all might have a better time.

"No wants it to be this life alterering musical that will win Pulitzers and be remembered for the rest of time as the best musical ever."

Really? Some here do aspire for that in a Broadway musical. Why allow yourself to settle for less?

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Very good advice young Amneris!

Likes and Dislikes are all well and good, posting for the first and only time in a negative manner is on the otherhand hollow and dare I say, lame.

Now if Tommyboyz want to cast some judgement on a few other Broadway clunkers or better yet, exclaim about a show he likes we can get the party started, but one lone attack post is always suspect.

This review was posted on Brian Wilson's own website. I didnot write this review but I agree with it:

... that said it was a terrible show and might not even open. Here it is: "If "Good Vibrations" was the weekend production of your high school's Junior Class play, it would be okay--but this is supposed to be Broadway! Granted, the performance I saw was only the third preview, but the problems with this production won't be fixed with the fine tuning that goes on after a show opens. The performers are energetic, but without exception are either mis-cast or not ready for Broadway. The music is out of their range, the choreography so dumbed-down it's embarrasing, and the acting...there was none to be found during the entire performance! The surest indication of the degree of disaster that was occurring: Even the family and friends of the cast and crew who were scattered around the theater in comped seats couldn't sustain their early, forced enthusiasm. There was almost no audience response after the first third of the first act. The pauses built into the show's timing to allow for applause after big musical numbers were filled with awkward, embarrassing silence. A positive note from the evening--it reminded me how much I enjoyed the old Beach Boys music. If you feel you must see Good Vibrations, go quickly. This stinker may not make it to opening night. Better yet, pull out your high school yearbook, put on a Beach Boys CD, and reminisce. You'll enjoy that much more, and you won't have wasted your time or money on a show that should never have opened! "

Ouch!

Hard bodies and the Beach Boys aren't enough to pull me into that show. I probably wouldn't have seen it anyway, but thanks for the review. Or roasting. re: Good Vibrations is a rip-off

Posts like these sadden me, because I saw the show at Vassar and thought it had tremendous potential. From reading everyone's reviews, it sounds like they never bothered to fix what was wrong with the play namely tightening up the overlong first act (the bar scene was totally unnecessary) and fixing the messy, almost incomprehensible ending. I wonder why they rushed the show to Broadway instead doing a few tryout cities first to iron things out and take time to write a more cohesive script.

Yes, there was a lot of energy and dancing in the aisles during Vassar. I know some of you aren't going to want to hear this but the truth is a good portion of the audience was there to see Justin Guarini and he had fans come from all over the country; some saw all five shows. I'm being to think that the producers saw what they wanted to to see and confused fan enthusiasm with show enthusiasm. Not that the crowd wasn't enthusiastic for the show, but the expectations for a workshop at $25 a ticket are far less than for a fully mounted Broadway show. Updated On: 1/1/05 at 09:40 AM

"I was hoping that Good Vibrations was really Surf's Up with a name change."

"I just spent $91.00 on this trash."

Did you do your research, or go on the GV website to listen to a couple of sound clips? You could have also saved yourself $30 if you had used the discounts here: http://www.broadwaybox.com/shows/Good_Vibrations_527.asp?s=22

So, if you had the potential to see the show, you could have looked for discounts rather than going ahead and spending $91 on a ticket on a show that you thought was going to be "Surf's Up with a name change."

Also, I think GV could be a hit. Sure, you guys aren't giving the show great reviews, but the Beach Boys have a huge fan base. All the Beach Boy fans are going to make the show a success - look at Mamma Mia for example. It's not the greatest thing to hit Broadway, but all the ABBA fans help make up a large chunk of Mamma Mia's profit.

Guys, I don't think you get it. Don't tell me how to get cheap tickets i don't mind supporting broadway. Tell me why a show with some of the best pop tunes ever written can be so bad. This show should be great. This show has so much potential. This show was rushed to Broadway and in its haste ruined a show.

"As for GV being a rip off, its not if you know what you're expecting. If you want a show with a great story, see Little Women. GV is just mindless fun."

That's a problem. Broadway has too much mindless fun and not enough drama, or at least thoughtful fun. This needs to change, otherwise we'll get more stupid shows and tons more stupid tourists.

I saw GOOD VIBRATIONS on Sunday... I really enjoyed it. I thought the cast were very good singers. I thought David Larsen, Kate Reinders, Jessica-Snow Wilson and Titus Burrgess in the lead roles were very fresh-faced and pleasing. The only problem I saw was length of the show and sloppy choreography by the ensemble (especially the 5 guys singing backup- not together or doing the same moves at times).

Hi Beachie
I saw the show 4 times at Vassar and I couldnt help thinking that someone we know and hate would judge it and probably say, "I could see this on any college campus" . Fun, but no cigar. So I TOLD the producers at Vassar. You have a Star who exudes excitement, professionalism and star quality (Justin) Expand his part, or put him in the lead. Use him!
I think the problem is that although they now have a more experienced cast who should be doing well they still need a Star at the top and while David seems like a nice kid, sorry, hes no Justin. Ryan Link could kick that show into gear too as he is super talented and hot too, but I think from what im reading is that they need someone to "bring it" to broadway, like Justin wouldve.

Jgssf, I love your avi! I have to agree that Justin shined like a beacon whenever he was on stage. And while I loved Tituss Burgess as 'Eddie', David Larsen just didn't have the compelling stage presence and vocals needed to carry the lead. It's a shock to read that the back-up singers are 'off' at the B-way show because at Vassar, the harmonizing back-ups were a standout even though (or maybe because) the entire male cast from David to Justin 'took turns' at back-up depending on who was in character at the time.

okay. Stupid tourists are pretty much support Broadway shows of any kind--mindless fun or thought-provoking drama. If you are a fan of any show, you need to be thanking us "stupid" tourists for coming to your city and forking over cash for the shows.

And Ryan Link auditioned for the show and unfortunately did not get a part. I was not impressed with David's voice or attitude last night (at Times Square thing) and think Ryan is very talented in everything I've seen him in. That's a good call.
And while I am anxious to see Justin Guarini do something else, (I really don't know that much about him at all.) I can say without a doubt that it is because he left this show that I am going to see it. I happen to adore the guy that replaced him.

And all this talk about rushing it to Bway may be true, but from what I have read, it is STILL a work in progress and they are making changes all the time, right? Maybe that will help. Although I doubt it will ever live up to the expectations of some people.

How much of your hard earned money did you spend on Broadway last year?
Every show that is out there is employing actors and stage people and dressers and makeup and ticket sellers and people at the door...and on and on...
Maybe some people like to go out sometimes and just have FUN!!!
With War and Tsunamis and disease and famine and prejudice and Hatred all over the world...Yes...I`ll take a little of that mindless fun... re: Good Vibrations is a rip-off

I'd be curious to find out who wrote that review on Brian Wilson's website, and what their relation is to the band or fandom.

Honestly, that review doesn't surprise me one bit. While Good Vibrations is going to appeal to people who love The Beach Boys and have been familiar with their music for years, it isn't going to please the hardcore fans of the band. Mostly because nothing does.

I'm sure there will be SOME hardcore fans who will like the show. I did. But I would also hope that the writer of that review keeps the fact that he saw the third preview in mind.
