The Vassar production had some really terrific actors who were not given the part in the Broadway production, although they were truly talented. The Vassar production was filled with energy and inventiveness created by these actors.
The producers just didn't see what was so right about the Vassar production and that is a pity.

Posted: 1/2/05 at 9:04amI think this show was rushed to Broadway because of the response to the Vassar production. And as someone else said, that response was due to the appearance of Justin G in the show even though he was not the lead. There were press releases all over the world when it was announced he was in the show (almost 100 in one day). Now that he is gone, the excitement seems to have died. I am also a member of Brian Wilson's site and his fans are not enthusiastic about this show either.

Posted: 1/2/05 at 11:22amActually, Good Vibrations was rushed to Broadway because they had to beat Surf's Up there. They knew Surf's Up was a much better show. Good Vibrations is counting on the Beach Boys fans to make this a hit. Unfortunately for them, the Beach Boys fans don't want to see these wonderful songs given the theme park treatment.

Wow! TWO bumps for your own thread Tommyboyz, looks like you got too much timez on your handz!
Nice to see you spreading your well focused bile into the New Year, I think we got the dealio you hate the show, fine, maybe you can cut and past another horrid review of some other person's opinon instead of your own again. You have also made clear your affection for Surf's Up(which was not just Beach Boys music-it had several 60's beach movie songs attached too), yet your facts are a little hazy regarding it, there was no race between GV and SF to Broadway this season, Surf's Up never got past but a few readings...it's not often I roll up my selves and git all whoopass with the new jacks, but seeing you ONLY joined to trash GV, I figured let's play with the "struggling actor" newbie.
You sure you ain't really a "struggling/failed/producer/uncast-actor with a MAJOR axe to grind"?
So maybe instead of BUMPING up your own thread multiple times-with meaningless symbols, (pssst, that never looks smart) you'll list some concrete reasons why an early reading of Surf's Up was so much better than an early preview of Good Vibrations. Again, I enjoyed it, call me crazy but sometimes even I like some mindless "Fun Fun Fun"!
Oh, and to all the Justin fans, trust me, he ain't coming back to this show...ever. I mean just sayin', even ILUVJUSTIN!13 took the hint regarding that!

Eddie, I apologize for the bumps. I am new here but I have been lurking for some time. No, I am not involved with any show just an actor/fan. I wish I could remember Surf's Up a little better then I could give you all the similarities of both shows. But there are many.
I really loved the fact that there were songs from many different recording artists. I laughed a lot. I didn't laugh once in GV. There was a lot of nostaglia in Surf's Up which was lacking in GV.
Just wondering why you are so upset about my negative review.
Eddie, did you see any of the readings for Surf's Up?
If you did maybe you could see the simialarities.

Not upset about your "review" at all, you have the right to love or loathe anything, I know at times I do both-sometimes at once.
I AM upset at the way you went about it, and continue to, dude, if you joined and expressed different views regarding various theater related subjects, perhaps even introduced yourself to the board you wished to "enlighten" ,I might not have been so quick to expose what I saw/see as a negative continuious hate rant thread with little or no, back up details.
But, again we all gots our own passions in life.

Posted: 1/3/05 at 2:29pmEddie, did you see any reading of Surf's Up? You seem to know a lot about it. Did anyone see any reading of Surf's Up? By the way, I only added a review that was not mine because I found it on Brian wilson's website. It was posted by one of his fans. I am a fan of Brian's. I consider him a genius and an american treasure. My interest in this show (GV)is solely as a fan of Brian's. I feel his music deserved better treatment. Perhaps The beach Boys were such incredible talents that the producers of GV could not find actors that could match their vocal talents.

Eddie, you need to S.T.F.U! God, I get so sick and tired of high-and-mighty wannabes, like yourself, attacking people on this board. It doesn't matter why someone joined or is posting -who put you in charge? This is a community posting board, not yours. Get a life.
Tommy, don't waste your time apologizing. He's not worth it! I think you stated your points pretty well. Learn to read Eddie - he commented on the acting, singing, and the songs as part of the story. I think he presented sufficient reasons to dislike this show.

Friends of mine saw the show recently and were very disappointed. They said that the plot was atrocious and the choreography was even worse. All in all their opinion was that it was community theatre level work.
I would give more detail but we didn't go to indepth in the discussion.

Loge,
And lots of people get sick and tired of newbies who come on here waving their internet d*cks around, trying to be all tough on a freaking theatre message board.
A simple search showed that Tommyboyz has posted 24 times on this board, and each and every time, it was about GOOD VIBRATIONS.
Now some might think that this person may have a bit of an ax to grind. Or maybe this person is just obsessive and unhinged.
Perhaps we should all take a lesson from Eddie and learn how to post respectfully about people's work (myself included, if you've seen my POTO review).

Posted: 1/3/05 at 5:41pmWho cares what anyone says or thinks on this board? I spend most of my time making fun of most of the posts around here and the stupid minds behind them.

What's sadder than an actor with an ax to grind slamming a show on a message board?
Reading all the posts and taking time to make fun of them.
My God, to whom are you making fun of them???

Eddie, Did you see the Surf's Up reading?
Jessica Grove and Andy Karl were incredible. They had amazing chemistry. They had beautiful voices and did justice to the music. Jessica can rock. She is going to be a big star.
if amyone knows if this show is playing anywhere in the NY area please let me know. I would love to see the whole show.
