Goodman Theatre in Chicago

The Goodman is the in "the Loop." That's what we call our downtown. If you're looking for a hotel and it must be within walking distance, I'd encourage you to look in the Streeterville, River North, or Near North areas. These areas are far more bustling, interesting, with much better shopping and restaurant options than the Loop which half shuts down after 5 during the week. These areas are all pretty swanky and it might cost a bit more than other parts of the city.

Since the Goodman is very close to both the Red Line and the Brown Line, you're free to stay at any hotel that's also close to those lines of our public transportation. You may be able to find a cheaper/funkier option if you take that course.

The advice from KJisgroovy is very sound. The only additional point I would offer is that if you'll be in town on the weekend you can sometimes get great rates at Loop hotels that cater more to business travelers. I often stay at the Hyatt Centric for that reason. New hotel. Boutique feel. Walking distance to just about everything downtown.

I also find Chicago is a good city to keep rechecking rates up until you hit cancellation deadlines for your reservations. Rates there seem to shift more than in some other cities, and I've often been able to modify my existing reservation a few days out and grab a lower rate.
