I saw Hairspray on Xmas day and saw at least 15 instances of castmates goofing off on stage..at one pt I caught one ensemble member look over to the wings and wave at someone...hand playing..faces...it was sorta silly and disrespectful.
Has anyone else experienced this type of distractions on a BWAY show. I saw this in Footloose too?
Haha only in the plays I'm in at school of course those aren't professional

umm... quick question.. have you seen hairspray before?
Yes. I have seen it with the original cast and I walked away thinking how sharp and clean it was...did not walk away feeling the same this time around.

hmmm... i was wondering if maybe you confused some blocked stuff with goffing off...
ah well.. no excuses really.. christmas day.. I KNOW theyd idn't want to be there....
Yah. Then again those original ensemble members and dancers have gone off to do amazing things...I guess they were really tight. I just felt like I was intruding in a private joke rather than being welcomed.
I will say though, the girl playing Tracy was well worth the price of admission.

yes, Carly Jibson is giving QU(ITE the professional debut turn as Tracy.
There are several standouts for me in the current Hairspray ensemble.... I miss some of my oldies though.
This is likely an effect of perhaps a little bit too much Christmas Cheer a little too early in the day.
Years ago I was in London over the holidays and saw Les Miserables at the matinee and Chess on Christmas Eve. Les Mis was wonderful, even if we were up in the Gods.
Chess, on the other hand, was a complete mess, and not just because it was kind of a mess to begin with. The chick playing Florence (a replacement) was enthralled with the raked stage and all during the mountain scene (now referred to as the terrace scene) kept climbing up to the top, attempting to slide down the rake and giggling. There was also an odd phenomenon of balloons that were loose backstage floating onto the stage, hitting lights, breaking and the cast attempting to catch their remains. By the end of the show, it was fairly clear much of the cast was drunk, or, well, at least too cheerful.

I was in a production of Gypsy, It had a very long run. So we got very very bored. Backstage early in the run, we learned the actress playing June had wet her pants onstage in a production of Annie while she was playing annie. So near the end of the run we had this idea. We were in the scene right before Goldstone, and June was sitting on a trunk. One of the actors hid a wet paper towel soaked with warm water in a bad in his pockett. at just the right moment, he took it out and squeezed it onto the trunk right behind her. During this scene, we are directed to lighty talk to eachother, etc. So June turns to me and says "omg why is there liquid on this trunk, it wasnt there when I sat down.." and she started like getting kind of upset. Everybody on stage noticed this liquid. Goldstone was a mess that night, becuase we couldnt stop laughing. We get offstage and she says "i must have PEED"...to this day she still thinks she peed. I hoppe she isnt reading this now....
