re: Grand Hotel, the musical

The revolving door alone was worth the price of admission. Well, that and Karen Akers singing on top of the proscenium.

Apparently it's not yet available as a download. Only on CD.

GRAND HOTEL - The Musical

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Thanks! I just ordered a copy.

If there was to be a revival who would you cast?

"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"

"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu

Wait, when and how did Karen Akers sing on top of the proscenium?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Well she wasn't actually on the proscenium. The set was two levels. The orchestra was on the upper level. She sang "What She Needs" from the ledge of the upper level.

Please... there were so many brilliant moments in Grand Hotel. The dance between Love and Death, the entire staging, the whole cast - my god, the cast... Grand Hotel was brilliant theater. It is within my top 5 Broadway musicals of all time...and I've seen a lot of Broadway musicals.

Yes the staging was clever, but have to say it was something of a dull evening in the theatre.
