Posted: 1/25/07 at 3:02pmThey are also going to open the show with "Grease Is The Word" rather than the parody....which is okay with me. Never been hugely fond of the way the original show opened. And, let's be honest...All Choked Up is always a little disappointing to any audience member that has seen the movie, and is awaiting "You're The One That I Want" when Sandy says, "Tell Me About It, Stud"

^ I couldn't agree MORE with you! I LOVE Joyce. She is one of the most talented performers out there.
(only problem is she'd make whoever they cast as Sandy look a bit...how can I say this without seeming like a total jerk...amateur?)
*I wish only good things for Sandy, I swear*

Posted: 1/25/07 at 3:08pmI believe Samuel French licenses a version that uses the movie songs (or they license the movie songs alone, I don't know). They'll probably use that version.

This information makes me more upset than the fact that they are casting the leads through some cheesy television show, which I will admit I have been watching.
I love the original songs. I find it perfectly fine to let Sandy sing Hopelessly Devoted, because in the original show, she does not have much to do and seems like a very small role. But I hate when Alone at the Drive-In Movie is replaced by Sandy, I have seen it done several times. I love the original song, it is so fun. Also, I enjoy All Choked Up more than You're The One that I Want, I mean its a fun song, but a bit too repetitive for me.
I find all of this strange because I was a fan of the movie years before I had seen a stage production, but I honestly enjoy the stage version better, except for the 94 revival (I hated the re-workings of the songs, but loved Since I Don't Have You).
Sorry, that seems a little rant-like.

Posted: 1/25/07 at 5:57pmYou have to pay for the movie songs as they weren't written by the same guys--YTOTIW and HDTY are the ones I'm thinking of--and we used Alone...instead of SAndy, which is not only ALOT funnier, it's a much better song and the scene before it CAN be hysterical.

Posted: 1/25/07 at 6:07pmI would LOVE to see Joyce Chittick have a main role. I believe she can be glimpsed on "You're the One That I Want" teaching the amateurs- I mean unknowns the dance steps during the "Grease Academy" segments. I don't mind songs from the movie being added in as a whole, but I don't really care for the title song.
