Posted: 1/23/07 at 7:43pmI know of one person who's been cast, as Jan. Her name is Lindsay, but I don't know her last name. It'll be her Broadway debut.

Posted: 1/23/07 at 7:43pmI had some friends that had auditioned a while back....and had some promising callbacks...but then I heard that they were holding auditions again just last week for some of the roles! It seems like the process has been going on for a long time. I hope that they announce the cast soon...although, who knows if they will do it until they cast the Sandy and Danny on T.V.

Posted: 1/23/07 at 8:52pmWell, I am excited to hear that the show will feature some new faces...t.v. or not, it should be a good production with Kathleen Marshall involved...hopefully the people cast in the supporting leads are fierce!

Posted: 1/23/07 at 8:52pmI think they would have to cast unknowns, otherwise the "stars" of the show could be very easily overshadowed. I mean Rizzo already stands out over Sandy, and if you cast a Broadway performer against a television show winner the balance could be thrown way off.

Posted: 1/23/07 at 9:18pmCasting stars/knowns in some of the supporting roles doesnt necessarily throw off the balance. Look at Hairspray- with Ashley, Diana, Tevin, Darlene and previously Haylie all in supporting roles. Wicked has done the same thing with the roles of Mdm Morrible and The Wizard. It can definitely work.

Yes, Mistress...I agree. And I am sure they will cast a star for Teen Angel. That just seems logical...

Jan is being played by Lindsay Mendez, whose previous credits include Princesses, and the European tour of Grease. She's a phenominal singer and actress. Her brother and I are in the same program and we watched her performance of "Meadowlark" from when she was only 18 and the depth of the performance and the voice were absolutely mind-blowing. Very excited for her debut!
Cheers,
Christopher

IMO, Kerry Butler is WAY too old or rather, looks way too old, to play Frenchie.
I saw the Pittsburgh CLO production of "Grease" this summer and Curtis Holbrook was great as Roger. And Tyler Maynard made a great Doody.

never in a million years will they NOT cast unknowns
the point of this show is so that producers will have a guaranteed hit and NOT have to pay a single star salary.

Posted: 1/25/07 at 12:22amwhat are you saying? you expect its going to be an entire show of bway debuts? That sounds pretty risky to me. They could easily cast some broadway notables (not necessarily stars) in roles like the Principal, Teen Angel, Coach Calhoun and Vince Fontaine without breaking the bank.

I think they'll go after whoever they can get.
I know that they have made offers to some estalished theater performers already and most have turned them down (Orfeh turned down Rizzo to do "Legally Blonde," for example.)
Marshall isn't dumb enough to cast an entire show with young amateurs straight out of school. We'll certainly see some Broadway veterans to balance things out.

Posted: 1/25/07 at 7:58amThe Coach isn't in the show. They're probably not gonna add him either (they want to remain close to the play).

Posted: 1/25/07 at 1:48pmYankeefan, you say that they are going to remain close to the show. Thank god. I was getting really worried, because I watched the show and in the last epsiode, it showed the contestants practicing three songs: the guys-Sandy, the girls-Hopelessy Devoted to You, and all-Tears on My Pillow. All three songs were only in the movie, and the title itself was only in the movie. So I was worried they were going for like a movie version adaptation.

It seems that, like many regional productions, they are making some cuts and adding in the movie songs.
"Hopelessly Devoted to You" is going to be added for Sandy to sing probably in the first act
"Sandy" is going to replace "Alone at the Drive in Movie"
"You're the one that I want" is going to replace "All choked up"
I would venture a bet that "Tears on my pillow" is not going to be used.
In the '94 revival they put in "Since I don't have you" but I think that they are not going to use that this time.
