#1Greatest VARIETY of Tony Awards?

Who has won the most categories of tony Awards? Not the most overall but the most different categories? I am thinking either Harvey Fierstein as he's won Best Play,Best Book of a Musical, Best Actor in a play and Best Actor in a musical.

Or Tommy Tune has won best actor AND best supporting actor in a musical, best director and best choreography.

Hs anyone won more categories.

Angela Lansbury, having won 5 TONY Awards over the course of her extensive career: 1966 – Best Actress in a Musical for Mame, 1969 – Best Actress in a Musical for Dear World, 1975 – Best Actress in a Musical for Gypsy, 1979 – Best Actress in a Musical for Sweeney Todd, and 2009 – Best Featured Actress in a Play for Blithe Spirit

In addition, she was nominated in 2007 for her leading role in the play Deuce for the Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play[179] and in 2010 for her featured role in the revival of the musical A Little Night Music for the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical.

That, I think, offers a wonderful variety.

I love Angela but I meant a variety of categories- not a variety of roles. She's won best actress in a musical and Best Festured Actress in a play.

He also has four categories, but they're all for the same show, which is pretty crazy. Trey Parker won Best Musical (as a producer), Best Book, Best Score, and Best Direction for Book of Mormon.

Also Mike Nichols has 4 categories: Director of a Play (several times), Director of a Musical (Spamalot), Best Musical (Annie -- as a producer), and Best Play (The Real Thing -- as a producer).

It's worth pointing out the four performers who've been nominated in all four acting categories: Boyd Gaines, Raúl Esparza, the aforementioned Angela Lansbury and Jan Maxwell.

Also, since it's fun to dissect the gigantic mountain of Tonys he has, Hal Prince technically has 21 Tonys in four different categories: 8 each for Directing and Best Musical, 2 explicitly for "Best Producer of a Musical" in the days when that was a category, and 3 Special Tony Awards.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
