Okay - so, I was thinking of buying the cd, but as it's been reworked, I should wait a few mos. until they re-record it w/the new/shifted material, no? My assumption is that they will re-record it, no? (I'm jazzed, we're seeing it 12/2.)
I like the score but to basically buy a new CD for 4 new numbers?
oh - is it that few? well, i haven't bought any grey gardens cd's yet, so maybe i'll just wait 'til they re-record. how is the currnet one, Mr. R? and do u think they'll re-record?
They might but to me thethe current one is quite sufficient
Wait & see what others say & than decide
They are going to rerecord the show. But not any time in the near future, so it will probably be a while before we'll see it on the shelf.
I'd be surprised if they re-record the show. The new material, while it works to tighten up the first act, isn't interesting enough to warrant another recording, IMO.

I completely disagree! I remember seeing the show and loving "Going Places" and then being devestated when it wasn't on the cast recording! Also, I loved Erin Davie and was sad to see that she isn't on the recording.

I really hated "Going Places" and preferred "Better Fall Out of Love." The other new songs weren't amazing, but overall I love the score. I probably won't rebuy the CD.
I really think if they knew they would transfer to bway should have just waiited to record it.

I asked some of the cast after the show and they said they have heard no word on them re-recording the show. However, they added that they would like to though.
I really doubt they will rerecord.
I don't think theres enough interest amoung people for it.
The producers are planning to rerecord it.
And when they recorded off-broadway they didn't have the broadway backers yet. So they weren't sure they'd end up moving.

they're just gonna record the new songs, right? and just put the new ones and old ones (from the O-B cd) on the same disc with a new cover?

Nope.
There will be an entirely new original Broadway cast recording.
The producers are totally committed to doing it.
I'm really angry that they replaced "Better Fall Out of Love". That was my number one favorite song.

What is your source? You sound pretty confident, but your statements are useless with no source from which you got your information in the first place.
The composer of the show. I worked with him on Grey Gardens and I asked him opening night.

Hopefully the new songs will be better. I just recently (last weekend) bought the off-broadway cast recording, knowing NOTHING of the show, and needless to say..I'm pretty dissapointed. The songs seem boring to me. Although, I do like "Will You" and "Five Fifteen" among a few others.
Anyone else feel that the show fails to deliever strong songs?

I'm glad, although surprised, to hear they're doing another recording. That means you should keep the Off-Broadway version--it will become a collectors item!!
any word if they are still planning on rerecording?
I would love a recording of Erin Davie's Little Edie
Sm**chies!

LovinGoodMusicals- I thought the same thing until I saw it. They really work a whole lot better in context of the show.
Am I the only one who doesn't like "Better Fall Out of Love?"
It's too braying and brassy for these two characters at this point in the story, particularly Joe Kennedy. It makes no sense for them to sing a number like that.
To me it sticks out like a sore thumb. The replacement song is a MUCH better choice, and focuses Kennedy on the things he would have been focused on back then... not a cheesy, swingy love song.
And I also prefer the reworked ending on Broadway. I don't like them launching fully into "Two Peas in a Pod" again. It undermines the dramatic climax too much.
And I preferred Davie's vocal performance as well, and look forward to hearing her again on this new recording.
In addition to replaces songs and a new cast member, there will be different orchestrations.
It's not 100% definite just yet, but it is highly likely this will happen. It is definitely wanted.
b12b: I agree with everything you said - though on a recording out of context, I do like "Better Fall Out of Love" better.
In the show, the new song works much better, as does the new finale.
