Posted: 7/4/05 at 9:45pmWhile the acting was minimal, he did a wonderful job in many of the scenes in the Chess concert. He can do this role.

Thanks a lot guys... I thought it was fact for a second, then I saw the ? mark.
But I think this is a great idea, if Piazza was extended for more than a year, I'm sure they might consider it... but as of late, I love Matt Morrison in the role of Fabrizio

Love Josh Groban and I would love to see him on Broadway, but not in Piazza. I didn't get to see Chess benefit... so I can't really confirm or deny anything. I actually prefer Matt Morrison, obviously because I love him and I think that Josh looks a little funny when he sings.

Posted: 7/4/05 at 10:03pmHonestly, it IS fun to think about celebrities taking on roles in our favorite musicals. However, I personally shudder at the thought of it actually happening. Not EVERY show has to be stunt-cast. Why accept a sub-stellar performance because the actor is a celebrity, when we can get exciting performances from experienced musical theatre professionals like Matthew Morrison?

I saw David Burnham, who understudies the role of Fabrizio, perform at one performance.
David did a fin, fine job. He is quite talented with a superb voice.
When he is not going on as Fabrizio, David is in the ensemble, and plays among other roles, the wine shop merchant, and the newspaper delivery boy in the opening number.
I also saw David in a totally different role doing some songs in "Bound for Broadway V" from THE FROG PRINCE. Terrific voice, comical and sexy, too.

Would Josh honestly have been accepted as a musical theatre major to Carnegie Mellon if he couldn't act? I mean, come on, that school isn't exactly AMDA, you know?

Posted: 7/5/05 at 2:23amI don't know, he went to my high school for theatre and acting, not singing but maybe there's a reason why he switched over. I've honestly never seen him act firsthand but vocally speaking he'd be amazing in Piazza I think.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 2:28amI thought josh would be good as fab, but then I heard the beautiful voice of an angel, Matthew , and I dont really see josh as him anymore. Matt is perfect. And I guess josh can act, he got into carnegie mellon as a m theater major right? and ive had friend go to auditions for schools and your acting cant be sub-par and they still let you in

I don't know, he went to my high school for theatre and acting, not singing but maybe there's a reason why he switched over.
My understanding of the story is that he was singing at the Governor's inaugural (sp?) party and someone heard him and told David Foster about him. Right before he was supposed to start at CM, Foster signed him to a record deal. The rest is kind of history.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 2:45amUnderstandable, understandable. I you huge talent singers who do theater who cant even remember lines.

I agree re: Groban's Italian- horrible pronunciation. But he could be heavily coached if necessary.
I haven't seen him act, but considering that he looks like a deer in headlights onstage in concert, I'd be concerned. Seriously, gorgeous voice but SO awkward physically.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 9:48amGroban did an episode of some TV show...maybe "Boston Public"? It was AWFUL...he looked so uncomfortable and forced. He, of course, also sang on the episode...and that was OK...but the acting was bad!

Thats what I heard, but, I didnt realize his Italian was that bad, maybe his beautiful tone and heavenly voice just got in the way for me there.
