"It's fairly enjoyable with an outstanding lead performance by Andy Karl. I wouldn't pay to see it again and I wouldn't recommend it without him or someone equally as good. I think the show would almost completely falter with an actor of average ability or less"
I've never agreed so completely with anything on this board! It was enjoyable, but I really did not click with the score, and there were some pacing problems. I thought it started slow, too. But then there are some really magical parts, and overall Andy makes it worth seeing. He is phenomenal. The show I think will be stronger on Broadway (especially with audiences who know that Groundhog Day is a real holiday in the USA! So many people I talked to at interval thought the movie made that up!!!). However, it is nowhere near as compelling and fantastic as DEH or Natasha/Pierre. I think Andy would totally be deserving of a win though, and he might edge out Ben Platt since he's been such a veteran. Obviously too early to say anything about those races, but as far as best musical, it's not.
