It's fairly enjoyable with an outstanding lead performance by Andy Karl. I wouldn't pay to see it again and I wouldn't recommend it without him or someone equally as good. I think the show would almost completely falter with an actor of average ability or less. Updated On: 10/3/16 at 01:34 AM

I beg your pardon, my dear KateSam, but have you listened to the theatrical triumph that is The Spongebob Musical?
I haven't seen this yet but based on what I'm hearing it doesn't stand a chance over Dear Evan Hanson or Natasha Pierre and the great comet.....

I've never agreed so completely with anything on this board! It was enjoyable, but I really did not click with the score, and there were some pacing problems. I thought it started slow, too. But then there are some really magical parts, and overall Andy makes it worth seeing. He is phenomenal. The show I think will be stronger on Broadway (especially with audiences who know that Groundhog Day is a real holiday in the USA! So many people I talked to at interval thought the movie made that up!!!). However, it is nowhere near as compelling and fantastic as DEH or Natasha/Pierre. I think Andy would totally be deserving of a win though, and he might edge out Ben Platt since he's been such a veteran. Obviously too early to say anything about those races, but as far as best musical, it's not.

I thought it was great. Very smart and you can tell that serious thought and labor went into it. Enjoyed it very much. Andy Karl carries the weight of the entire show on his shoulders.
