Grumpy Cat is a fairly fragile cat with health problems. So this is very confusing.
I was wondering if I managed to fall into a time warp and it was April 1st already.

I wasn't there, but I've gathered that she was brought out post-curtain call for a company photo and a speech was made about cat/pet shelter adoption.
This is something that was done with the Cats tour as well. Not with Grumpy Cat, of course, but local shelters would sometimes have cats for adoption even at the theater.
