WICKED doesn't really need it. if it had weon best musical, all that means is that they would be oversold and would be that way until january. Now they are justsold out until august or september. and about 80% of the shows on broadway would KILL for their grosses.
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.
SO all this about the screens saying WICKED... wasnt that the last show nominated, and possibly it was left on some of them and not changed immediately.
No, that's not what happened. When they announced the best musical Tony, it said "Best New Musical" on both screens. Then as the Avenue Q team was approaching the stage, it said "Avenue Q" up there on the winner's screen. But not long after it changed to "Wicked". Wicked was up there through most of the speech and they finally changed it back to Q right at the end.
I was at the Tonys and noticed it change back to Q, but had to review my tape of the Tonys to see what happened before it. If you go back and watch, you can see the screens go back and forth.
As for the costume thing, since Monday is a dark night, that's when the dry cleaning happens. Perhaps the dress normally used in that scene needed work, and since the costumes are packed up Sunday night, it wasn't an option to use it.
