Oh good grief. No one is even suggesting closing notices for Wicked. It's been selling out and there's no reason to expect that to change.
People who liked another show better have been happy about it (who can blame them?) people who didn't have a favorite were happy to see an underdog win (that's me) andpeople have commented that for one reason or another, the Tony performance of "Defying Gravity" was not up to it's usual stand. So those who bought tickets on the strength of the Tony broadcast will be even happier to see the show.
Chill out.

Mama Mia didn't post a closing notice when it walked away empty handed. There's no reason to believe that Wicked will. It's not surprising that people liked Defying Gravity. It's easily the best song in the show. Personally, I'm glad they gave Chenowith so I didn't have to sit through "Popular" again. Although, I know a woman who belts the crap out of Defying Gravity and her voice rivals Menzel's. Her name is Kate and she cocktails at the Duplex on Sunday nights. Tell her Robert sent you. You'll be happy you went.

Another interesting tidbit from the same article. Apparantely, in the moments right after "Q" was announced as the winner of Best Musical, two giant video screens in RCMH read "Best Musical: "Wicked"- they claim it was a technical error.
I'd say !! Real embarrassing !!
Wonder how ticket sales will fare when Cheno and Idina leave the show?

I think that obviously it will have ramifications, but I dont believe they will be as big as people might think. First of all, KC's last show is July 18th, and maybe people did not know that in advance, but there are plenty of tix sold already for the rest of the month of July as well as August.
Also, we have seen the show a number of times, and we are always curious to hear comments of people that are seeing the show for the 1st time. Many of them have no idea who the leads are !!
Hanging out at the lottery line, you get the same sense.
Anyone know when Idina is scheduled to leave the show??

I think Idina is scheduled to be with the show until January.
She's contracted through January 2, though that is not necessarily her last show.

I don't think that the exit of both leading ladys will have ANY effect on sales. Quite frankly, only New Yorkers (or theater fans even KNOW who they are, and neither of these groops have made the show a hit.
Just my opinion, I may be wrong.
I know that whenever I mention the name Idina Menzel to anyone who doesn't live in the New York area they usually look at me for a second before saying, "Who?" So, I really don't think it's gonna hurt the show. Unlike The Producers, which is so character and personality driven, Wicked seems to rely more on songs and visuals, so having different actors in the leading parts probably won't stop tourists from going to see the show for the first time, or people who love it from returning.
I was on a plane coming back from Miami and missed the tonys...so sad. anyone know where i can see a video of the performance since no one taped it for me : ( I am VERY happy for Idina!
There will be no ramifications whatsoever, in the negative sense once both original leads are gone. The show is NOT about Cheno and Menzel, it's about Galinda and Elphaba. Again, like I said in another thread, any other two "above average" women, will be just as beloved. And any other "above average" women cast as the original leads, would have been nominated. It's the nature of the roles, in this case.

SO all this about the screens saying WICKED... wasnt that the last show nominated, and possibly it was left on some of them and not changed immediately. I love this conspiracy theory that wicked really won, and it was a mix up. I also love how someone told the press it was their fault for asking people who they think would win and not who they voted for. IF they asked people who they voted for maybe it wouldnt have been a suprise. In the weeks before tonys everyone was hoping for ave q to be honored and now that it was... Look yes I feel bad for wicked but I feel good for Avenue Q, and vice versa if the result was opposite. WIcked has been selling great and will continue too, its a family show with great buzz. Avenue Q was sellign well enough to make back its investment and now has seen a bump. I know when wicked finally does close even if it is 2 -3 years from now, it will be brought up on these boards how "it would still be running if it won the tony". Food for thought...please dont attacj my thoughts. hehe Updated On: 6/8/04 at 05:34 PM

Defying was okay...... I was busy looking at the mic on Cheno's forehead... LOL
I LOVED Cheno in the bubble.. once again, not because it was Cheno however..
the clasp on Idina's cape was very loud. I noticed when I rewatched.
I still wanna know why Cheno wore the Shiz costume instead of the yellow dress from the production????????

maybe the same reason Harvey wore a different dress and Mary Bond Davis wore a different wig for You Can't Stop The Beat last year and Idina had her HAIR in a fall and not a wig in a braid and why Louise Pitre didn't wear her hair styled like she does in the show when Mamma Mia performed a few years ago... it was easier perhaps.. or they thought it photographed better.. you never know. It DOES NOT MATTER. The sky WILL NOT fall because of it.
Calm down, freak of nature, and take your Prozac. If you don't act nice, then I'll send Cheno to get you!
BTW, you'd better check your pants for skid marks...
